Match Day Thread FA Cup. Watford vs Southampton. Sun 28 Jan. 14.00.

I can take two positives from those 45 minutes.

Firstly, I'm not fussed about the cup this year. I'm fine with not having to deal with extra games after today.

Secondly, with just a few days left of the window, it has maybe acted as a wake-up to some that we could still do with adding some greater first-team quality depth. There are still many matches to play - including some of the hardest we'll have all season - and we don't want to be complacent and assume that we can just rely on the usual names every week. They're not robots. And so if these guys today are currently the next in line...

 

I’d bring Adarma on for Dibling at half time. He looks lost.

What's the view of Rothwell so far? Charles and Stephens not having the greatest game but barely heard a mention of Rothwell.

 

I am kind of the opposite. I am looking at this thinking we got Rothwell for squad depth and he is making us worse. I don’t want to **** the team up anymore!

Yeah, he is playing in front of Holgate at RB though.

 

Holgate does not have the pace for a right back.

 

Well that's the worst we've played all season.

 

Shea Charles is some way below Downes' level on this showing. The midfield is just not clicking today, although understandable given the many changes.

 

As suspected, too many changes leading to a very disjointed performance so far. No point picking out individuals, because they’ve all been pretty poor. Still, a lot of time and ability to turn it around, but changes are desperately needed.

 

KWP for Holgate is a must. Adarma and Fraser for Dibling and Mara as well.

 

Meh.

 

Dibling has got about 5 crosses in. He is nowhere near first for the guillotine!

 

Well that was pretty awful. Relieved to go in at HT 1-0.

 

Mara isn't a winger. Play him through the middle or not at all.

 

This was so obviously going to be the case that I can only assume that we just wanted to use this as a training game for the players that need game time and we don't want to get through to the next round because that's another midweek game into the mix. Otherwise it's incredibly arrogant to put out this team and expect a good performance. How often can you make that many changes and it clicks? So rare and why I avoid going to cup games.
