    As I previously stated, each will have their own beliefs, and that’s fine.

    I certainly can’t be arsed to get into a back and forth with you, I’ve witnessed them dragging on before on many an occasion, boring as ****.

    Usually do when the evidence doesn't support an argument but folk cling to it anyway.

    TBF, I don't have strong views about the pandemic or its response eitherway. But even I'd heard of the UK exercise. If anything I think it's a bit scary that despite these exercises we were still so unprepared regardless.

    If you’ve read the Full Fact article, you’ll have seen that there was another one run a year earlier based on a flu epidemic, which wasn’t followed by a flu epidemic.

    The period showed that a sizeable percentage of the population were happy to sit at home, watching ted lasso on TV and having their food delivered, as long as the state were paying. Proves how compliant we are in general and influenced by fear.

    Have to see if another pandemic scare will work so well - the mortality figures are moot, but populations with higher numbers of elderly, poor and sick clearly suffered more. Strange that the chronic drug addict groups weren't wiped out. The more recent warnings of new strains are being largely ignored.

    Russia seems to be the latest scare tactic - the government have cut the British army to the smallest and least 'prepared' for war in decades and at the same time, UN military chiefs are telling media outlets that Russia will invade a NATO country within three years and members should prepare for conscription. Will anyone really send their children to fight in Lithuania because Rishi Sunak says so? Maybe several million refugees will stand firm finally. I thought the Russian army was supposed to be decimated by the Ukraine and it's Western equipment within months ... But two years later, here we are.

    24 hrs news coverage means time has to be filled, resulting in endless ****e being printed or filmed.

    I think Russia has more power and brings fear upon governments around the world than they will admit .
    They are capable of killing anyone in any country they desire and governments will avoid any direct conflict .
    The conscription bit is bollocks

    That’s what they thought in Russia too, but after all the regulars, the prisoners, younger conscripts had been sent to battle all they had left to call up were the pensioners. At least that's what they said on the news. Maybe they are the only ones who know how to drive the old vehicles they are taking from museums to send to the front line.

    That's not actually true, they raised the conscription age from 27 to 30 to get the extra numbers they needed. The story about pensioners was about Putin changing the law that prevented pensioners from being in the military, to allow 60 to 65 year olds with previous military experience to come back in senior officer positions.

    Threats to international peace and security:

    short-term… Russia;
    Medium-term… Iran (look at the influence they wield regionally through proxy forces); and
    Long-term… China.

    No, just look at Tower 22… and now we wait for the response of POTUS. Will they strike target(s) on Iranian soil? Let us hope not…
