We wouldn't spend £15m on anyone this window, let alone someone with 6 months left on his deal with a recent history of major injuries.

Good luck to him, I know he has his detractors and faults but always felt he gave it everything.

 

Yeah not arguing with that at all. He might well come good but as we were on a limited budget, spending a big chunk of it on him was just stupid.

 

This seems more believable if in fact true. Why we'd he bring him in now though seems strange.

40k a week = 2m/yr x 5 year contract = £10m. Agent fee approx 2m, addons etc = 3-4m fee

 

Given the level of interest maybe we have to strike now rather than wait until the summer. I would love him here - quality player.

 

I'd expect him to be on a bit more than half that at least initially, with a significant promotion escalator. Probably:

£25k p/w x 5 = £6.5m wages.
Agent fee/bonuses = £3m.

Actual fee = £5.5m.

But we might also just be giving way too much credence to the source.

This whole Benson thing is getting boring. Feels like Burnley are just stringing us along at this point, waiting for a better offer.
