Thanks mate , were the band the same as the Lafaette gig, just had note to say my album is due tomorrow
Just had a word with Mrs Conn, her memory is much better than mine , it was 92, and we don't think it rained but one thing not to forget were the massive queues getting out , even though we had VIP tickets and parking it was getting light when we got home , another memory was that Lisa Stansfield was the warm up act strange choice
So we were at the same gig 32 years ago, Alfie!!! Small world! I'd forgotten about Lisa Stanfield though. It was a fabulous show Just glad we got out quick!
I bet we were at quite a few shows together without knowing , my Brother was going out with a girl who worked in A&R and she gave out tickets like confetti , but went to see most of the major bands in the 70s and early 80s then a mortgage, work kids and fitting I'm Spurs games took over
Ahh yes those queues made the national news! '92? Bloody hell that feels like an age ago now... 1st gig of the year last night at the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham for me. EMF for an outstanding entertaining evening. Completely feeling it this morning though, got bits aching I'd forgotten about.....
Tbh I've been there four times now for different events and every time the sound has been spot on. It's at the back of the Rough Trade store in Shoreditch and has a capacity of just 300 so it's very intimate. It's fast becoming one of my favourite venues especially as it's only 10 minutes on the Overground from my nearest station, Canonbury!
No, the bassist was Mr Sarah Jarosz, Jeff Picker, so was well pleased as I really rate him as a bassist. I think the guitarist's name was Seth? But aside from the drummer, who wasn't present as it was meant to be an acoustic set, the line up in this video clip from late last year is the one that performed on Monday night. Incidentally, I don't know if you remember but they played this song at the Lafayette gig? Anyway, enjoy the LP, it's an absolute belter!
Got my copy this morning and it's been on repeat most of the day ,Days can turn around and Columbus & 89th both classic SJ tracks Jeff Picker, love his double bass work on Orange and blue and the live Blue heron suite Also love the richness of the Octave Mandolin she plays
One of the questions during the Q&A was if she could only own one instrument what would it be? Apparently it's the Fletcher Brock Octave Mandolin which she's had since she was about 16! So pretty much half her life!
Morning all, Currently out on tour in the northerly parts on the UK and Ireland, some of my personal faves, in the guise of Punk Supergroup Dead Men Walking... A tour of more southerly parts is said to be coming later in the year. Any band featuring The Ruts rhythm section, Jake Burns and Kirk Brandon is alright by Brian, So here's a bit more...
This popped up on a feed today. Tom Jones and CSNY! Quite the antithesis of my musical journey, but this is excellent and, despite a mega career spanning 7 decades, I think TJ's voice is still underrated. Possibly the greatest (white) Blues singer of all time?
I saw this years ago and thought that it was a dream after a late night raid on the fridge , I bet that was a good post show party
RIP Wayne Kramer, back in 76 we had no streaming, downloads or CD reissuse and I heard this track played before a gig ,it took me months and months to find a copy of this album and at the same time John Peel was bigging it up along with the NME , finally found a copy in the second hand section of Submarine records in Watford , made in 69 Kick out the jams by the MC5 must have been the influence of so many American punk bands
Definitely not just US bands, The Damned Damned Damned album has a major MC5 influence, including this explosive cover... and there's Dave's performance ith the band... Mick Jones is a huge fan of Kramer's and this B side is dedicated to him...and here performed by the man himself... RIP a Rock 'n'' Roll hero.
I've just dedicated 21.12 minutes of my life to looking at this again. I recommend it heartily... ...you can thank me later.
Tracy Chapman brilliantly reprised 'Fast Car' at the Grammy's last night (with Country singer Luke Combs who respectfully covered the song last year) That first album was a masterpiece for an amazingly talented singer-songwriter, who was able to hold 90k people in the palm of her hand and totally enthralled back in1988 at Wembley with just her voice and acoustic guitar.
Classic example of a talent in the right place right time , I went out to buy the album the next week and not many shops had it
