Yeah no complaints over the result for me. We fully deserved to lose. Just shows how huge it is/ was having the likes of Son and Kane over the years. They’re the types that could’ve been the difference maker in a game where we’re up against it. Seeing Werner, Richarlison and Johnson trying to emulate them does at least provide a comedic factor I suppose.
He holds on to the ball far too much for me, slows play down unnecessarily. Good player but should be no more than a squad player.
One big issue was neither Udogie nor Deki never seemed to pass to Werner - so even when Werner was in a position to receive the pass or was about to make a run, the pass was never made so we lost one outlet not due to anything that the Mansourites did but simply because one player wasn't passing to another Says it all our best chance came when somebody actually passed to him, and he played it in to Johnson Sometimes it was because a player was takin a second too long to make a decision, sometimes it was players wanting to take the ball up the pitch themselves when there was a passing outlet available, but sometimes you started to wonder if Werner has been retweeting Joe Rogan or Ben Shapiro and clogging up his teammates' Twitter feeds with smoothbrained takes
It’s such a shame that Kane didnt stay to have at least one season with Ange. If we had him, Son and Kulu tonight it would be such a difference. The others are nowhere near top 10 players let alone of the calibre to compete with a team like city.
I agree as a midfield player but not as a forward. He is way better than just a squad player if played in his best position
City were massively motivated to beat Spurs and with their quality it was a massive task to stay with them. There were periods in the second half where we had some fluency but City snuffed it out. We can now concentrate on the league and build our team experience. I don't expect huge things in the first season of Ange in fact he has already exceeded my expectations.
Completely agree. We have been far better than I ever could have imagined, but there is still a gap to be made. The fact we are only three points behind them in the league says a lot. I fully trust in the process and the squad is getting there. But we need to be full strength to have any chance against a team like city.
I thought that Werner was ignored 3/4 times tonight when in good positions, I've not given up on him yet
It would’ve been a great watch, I think he’d have loved this style and system and would probably be on 20 goals already. Can’t blame him for going though, bloke deserves the very best; just hope Bayern deliver it for him, sod’s law if he doesn’t win anything this season after the way Leverkusen have been playing!
Usually I would be really gutted but I’m not tonight weirdly. It shows there is plenty of work to be done but we have the basis of a really good first 11 and are building an exciting squad. We need to keep investing in youth and hope we unearth a few gems like Sarr and udogie. That’s the way we will progress as a club. City are way ahead of us right now and it shows that they can alternate players with no real drop in quality. big game next week and a win will make us all feel a lot better
I don't know if it was a foul on the keeper or not for sure. I thought so because they had been sitting on him all match which clearly restricted his movement. Commentators says he should be stronger, but knocking the marker over prob gives a pen away. What I am sure of though is that the same situation would have been given as a foul in a different match. Not all matches of course. It's the consistency that grates (or lack of consistency). And while there is inconsistency, there is subjectivity and that might just favour certain teams.
Yeah agree. It sucks to lose but I’m not devastated, just disappointed at how easy we made it for City’s defence and keeper. City are City at the end of the day though, that’s a £bn team. Agree on first XI too, sign a top CF/ ST in the summer and we’ve got the makings of an XI that can beat anyone on our day.
I don’t think it was any different than any other game where pressure is put on the keeper. I didn’t think it was a foul on Trafford the Burnley keeper either the other week. I think generally goalkeepers get way too much protection.
That’s why I get annoyed when people say Spurs are better without Kane. He’s world class. His replacement is absolute levels below him.
And calls himself a pigeon, ffs. Like I more or less said to Crackers, CF/ ST is basically the last piece of the puzzle for me in terms of having an excellent first XI. If we sort that and further build the squad for Ange, I think good times are on the horizon.
Bit of a strange game that one. Citeh overall were more deserving of the win, but they did not really do that much of note against what is far from the strongest Spurs starting XI.
Season over? Really? No over reaction there Glad the crowd had a better take on it than that! We were good until the final third and with no Son, Bissouma and Sarr plus a clearly unfit Maddison that is hardly a surprise tbh. For all their possession Vicario made 1 outstanding save and everything else was routine. They (best team in Europe) we're not comfortable against a team that was effectively missing 4 first team players. We are still in the hunt for a European place and we play some lovely football. A year ago we played Milan and lost 1 nil with only one attempt on target. I walked away from that digusted. I refused to go again until we started playing decent football. Tonight is totally different and long may it last
Given how they seemed intent to block him at every corner in the hope of an Allarshyte Special, I'm amazed we haven't seen any "What if...?" scenarios of starting Dragusin over Mickey Van yet On the other hand, the fact Hojbjerg was looking knackered in the last 15-20 minutes really underlines that his legs are going, especially as his two big mistakes came when he was clearly fatigued, as a couple of seasons ago he'd have still been tearing around the pitch into stoppage time twice a week if needs be...which sort of explains why his legs are going
