Jheez , we've lost and academy player whos barely played any first team football. Hardly the end of the universe is it.
Read on a Brighton forum that they were a little bemused about signing another youth attacking midfield as apparently they have been stockpiling them. No doubt he hasn't gone there for youth team football, so wonder if they plan on sending him out on loan somewhere. They love the fact that they can 'take what they want from Southampton' though.
It sounds like it is a sound bite to use as an excuse to leave. Ultimately Brighton are better than us, so if he isn’t playing much here then you’d think he is unlikely to there. Maybe he is very good and only hasn’t featured here because of injury and will walk into Brightons squad, and he is leaving to play for a better team on more money. Time will tell I guess. Basically I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault specifically that he is leaving. It’s a good opportunity for him, hopefully we got a good fee and he ends up at a top club so we get another chunk further down the line
I see the academy as something I’m pretty invested in as a Saints fan as it’s a big part of our identity, so always a bit gutting to see an exciting talent get taken before they’re able to break into the 1st team.
Another way of looking at it is that of the small percentage of Academy graduates who become top flight footballers, some will make it to the first team and some will have to be sold to provide revenue for the club.
My thoughts exactly. £ driven but can’t blame him. Also has the chance to train with PL players & possibly learn more faster? Of course that could be us next year but there’s no doubting BHA are a step up on us now.
Not sure that I am surprised about him leaving. Weren’t there rumours, before he was injured, that he wanted to leave?
