I think a lot of the nay-sayers are either ignoring or don't fully understand the financial impact our 4 years in league one had - not to mention the state Madrox left the club in. We were effectively starting again from zero in terms of the Academy, the off field stuff and the playing squad. I understand why KLD isn't willing to fund huge losses at this stage, particularly as they are building towards 2025/26 but patience isn't a typical virtue of a Sunderland fan
Random otr has said that we are interested in Gelhardt and Cresswell from Leeds. Probably rubbish, but an interesting couple of names
6 ft 3 CB who played plenty of games on loan at Millwall last season. I don’t think we’ll be looking for anyone in that position personally.
I’d rather we have all 3 with a wingback. At times 09 is like a defensive playmaker and he does bring something defensively. I’d like a lwb - maybe Styles is it- and play a 3 4 3 with Rusyn/Roberts Clarke and a new 9. That won’t please the Pritchard lovers but he could play the false 9 until then, or a 3 5 2 but that would mean Clarke isn’t an easy fit
200 pages!!! Feel it should be acknowleged albeit probs only 2 or 3 actually on topic but when faced with a vacuum...
OK my view, he's looking to fulfill his mams hopes of being able to run a club like his dad, He will not use his own money, so we have to sell to invest, that's never gonna work up in the NE its hard enough to get players here paying good money. What we got from the 3 sales Ross Hadj and Gooch has gone on the infrastructure of the club. Well thats all well and good, but that don't get you up the league. We are just treading water because he believes what KS has brainwashed him into believing, that this modle is sustainable well not for Sunderland fans its not, not when a Billionaire buys us and does not invest his own money, just uses local hard working folks money. He is treating us as an experiment to see if he can handle bigger things abroad. With Juan moving into politics again, it will be interesting to see who joins KLD when Juan sells his shares. It won't be his family coming on board.
We can’t compete with relegated clubs on money. It’s as simple as that. We need more income. We are close by spending smartly, keep doing it and as we up our income from transfers we close the gap. KLD would have to use his personal cash to fund what the premier league income pays for or get into debt. Not going to happen. Nor should it.
The model has to flex depending on the circumstances we find ourselves in. We were well ahead of schedule making the playoffs last year. How does potentially losing Clarke, Ballard et al. after finishing bottom half of the league in 23/24 and all the other bad stuff that will come with that including reduced investment and a mightily pissed off fanbase set us up for 25/26 in a better way that taking advantage of our unexpected progress would have?
