Giles and Philogene. Well you couldn’t get any more attacking down that side!

The consensus on Twitter is that Giles isn’t good at defending, shouldn’t be too much of an issue if we carry on dominating possession. He does seem very similar to Vinagre so the club obviously has a specific skill set they’re looking for at LB.

Listening to the latest 1904 pod, Baz seems to think Giles is pretty close.

How are the ‘option to buy back’ arrangements managed (ie Philos)?. By the same principles as add ons these would be deducted from the cost, which as they are only options, would not make any sense. If these deals worsened our ffp position, then they wouldn’t take place.

The option to buy back just acts like a sale. So if Villa triggered it and paid us 15m next season if we were in the PL, we would book an 11.25m profit on his sale - i.e. the 5m we paid for him less a quarter of 5m - 1.25m - ammortised (he's on a 4 year deal isn't he?), so he has a book value of 3.75m. A sale price of 15m less the 3.75m = 11.25m profit booked in our accounts.

A buy back isn't the same as an add-on so wouldn't be treated the same. An add-on is merely an additional cost of the purchase only triggered by certain events and thus (as far as I'm aware) is fully expensed in the year it's triggered. So West Ham paying us more for Bowen WOULD be expensed in the year it was occurred (which is why I clarified for Amin above that that's the one time the cash does equal the expense).

Think we made an FFP thread for this reason so this thread wouldn't get too sidetracked with understanding how it all works. <laugh>

I think I posted a link to Price of Football explaining it all so I'll bump the thread.

Boro supporting family member was very envious that we were linked with him. I think he was there on loan from Wolves before he chose Luton? She says he creates numerous chances through crosses though not as strong defensively. He was very highly thought of there, but Luton offered him a permanent.
My first thought was that’s not what Liam wants from his full backs (inverted, non overlapping), though he sounds very similar to Vinaigre (minus the injuries please). Sounds like him and Philo wil run riot down threat left flank

If their level of cheating is proven and upheld I don’t think we’d have to worry about them in the championship. They should be going down to the national league. Which in fairness to the 30-40,000 actual Man City fans would be a real shame. But for all the plastic glory hunters it would be magnificent.

Becomes an issue IF we get promoted though, I’d rather sign someone that can defend, or it’s another player we may need to replace

It’s not the most worrying problem to have if
You get promoted and need to replace a 3.5M player.
I think people forget sometimes the vast difference in budget that PL money brings.

Be a nice problem to have. If he comes in and gets us promoted it’s immediately money well spent. If we then decide he’s not good enough he’s still a sellable asset another promotion chasing club will want.

Yeah, all those years watching some of the best players in the world steamroller everyone, collecting trophies, countless great days out at Wembley and all those trips abroad watching them beat Europe's elite. All from a fantastic stadium that was given to them for free. I pity them.

Yeah I honestly do. They were just along for the ride. You can’t choose your owners. As we well know as a fan base. I’ll still be hoping they get the maximum punishment though. Man City and their “model” for me embodies everything that is wrong with modern football.

The stadium is owned by Manchester City Council and leased to Man City, exactly the same arrangement as the MKM for us (only we didn’t have to spend £42m converting it for football use, or £300m developing the land around it).

Remember that those posting on twitter are not all experts, although I imagine many of them pass them selves off as so.
I prefer to leave the judgement if this lad can defend or not to those who are paid to do it, and I wouldn't have thought he would have even got through the door of any football club, never mind a Premier League on, if, as a full back, he couldn't defend. So who do you believe? Some no mark on twitter or a whole host of professional football league scouts/coaches/managers?

My understanding is our owner likes the model of having a global organisation owning teams across Europe and beyond (eventually). There was talk of a Greek club at the end of last year joining the Acun Medya Holdings group.

I would recommend the tour of the facilities at Man City. Its a phenomenal business and the academy is producing some amazing talent. (Making some money now too). The top clubs in the Premier League are all benefiting from improved stadia, improved training facilities and academies and a bigger media presence. It also shows that clubs that have failed to move with the times like Chelsea and Man Utd are falling behind the elite pack.

My wife and her family are multi generational Man City supporters, having suffered years of mediocrity they are just along for the ride. I've taken my lad to a few Champions League games this season (why not for less than £40!) and the money the club continues to invest in Manchester and the facilities is astounding. They own the academy facilities which is worth a couple of hundred £M. I doubt they will be found guilty of the PL charges. I'm sure the lawyers can run rings round the Premier League, they did UEFA. Not saying its right but its modern football.

    Asked a Boro supporting friend.

“Brilliant at attacking, **** at defending”

Doesn’t think he’d get in their team this season.

It was built for the Commonwealth Games and paid for by Sport England wasn't it? Manchester City council used council tax payers' money to convert it to a football stadium and Man City moved in. The £300 million to develop the land around it was paid for by a dodgy squillionnaire Abu Dhabi sheikh who uses the club to sports-wash his country's image (after their previous owner was found to be guilty of industrial scale bribery and torture).
Again, my heart bleeds for them.
