Didn't think we were gonna get that one but what a lovely way to pizz them all off, When I saw Paddy with the ball I bet every Leeds fan mouths dropped. Keeps us right in the mix very important 3 pts as we really couldn't afford to lose the 2 but was a pen and they have nothing to moan about. mon the Whites. Wind spoilt the game but when you get the 3pts its forgotten about bring on the next one.
Thought the ref did ok in a very difficult game to manage,, booked who he had to, but Preston very canny in rotating the players to take their turns of taking lumps out of us, so no one could be sent off.
Just on outskirts of Leeds heading for the bus station. Going to be some happy Irish lads at the merchant.
Well that was frustrating. What a ****ing **** ref, and Preston with there brand of anti football. Stress levels were at the max, felt like a play off win when we quite rightly won it at the death. Glad we won't be seeing them again, and I guarantee they don't play like that again for the the rest of the season
Conditions played a major part in a scrappy game today but here goes.... Meslier - 6. Standard save first half. Needs to defend his 6 yard area a lot better. Bad conditions made it difficult under the high ball. Gray - 6. Struggled early doors with Millar again but grew in to the game. Showed his lack of experience late in the game arguing with Preston players and getting caught in possession on the half way line. Rodon - 6. A rare off game for him defensively. Caught wrong side for the free kick that led to the goal and generally iffy in tough conditions. Hard fought header won the penalty. Ampadu - 6. Poor first half but improved after half time. Not at his best. Firpo - 7. Great cross for the equaliser and offered an outlet on that left hand side particularly in the first half. Defensive work was OK too for the most part. Had less impact 2nd half. Gruev - 7. Silent assassin. Good on and off the ball 1st half and sat deeper 2nd half to allow both full backs to push Preston back. Kamara - 4. Caught too often in possession and never really got going as we know he can. Sloppy. James - 8. Another goal. The perfect type you need on a scrappy day. Competed for everything, never stopped running and had some very good crosses. Summerville - 7. Had a hand in the first goal. Put one on a plate for Georginio who hit the post and had a few half chances himself. Rutter - 6. Took his time to get going and often had a heavy touch but did attract alot of attention from Preston defenders. Should have put away two easy chances with a header 1st half and hit the post 2nd half. One of those should be going in. Bamford - 6. Workrate and movement was good. Never really turned half chances in to full chances and too many really dangerous crosses were left to fly across goal with nobody getting across the defenders. Subs. Byram - 6. On for a tired Firpo and did his job. Piroe - 7. Had a couple of half chances and fluffed his lines before being the coolest person in the stadium to convert the penalty for 3 points. Cooper - n/a. Injury time sub. Joseph - n/a. Injury time sub. Childish challenge to give Preston one last free kick. Needs to learn from that. Wasn't the smartest move.
We kept on going, difficult conditions and against a dirty team who tried every dirty trick in the book, **** them. Four consecutive wins, three in the league and midweek home match coming up
Scared the fook out of me when he had the ball, but I recon he was just winding us up,probably laughing his bollix off at us now.
Job done. Like the way DF(if he has to), has a word with players as soon as the match is over. Noticed he took time out with Archie to make a point about something he needed to be aware of. Next up Norwich, let’s hammer em.
Gruev man of the match for me, I don't think he put a foot wrong all game and Dan James a close second.
A good point well made but, no, Paddy, Person of the Match for me. Not because he was the best but, because not only did he relinquish the penalty to Piroe but he celebrated like he’d won the lottery when it went in, something that never happened with him and Rodrigo We’re good right now
Thought Gruev sat too deep at times which left midfield a bit thread bare. Ampadu usually plays a bit further forward than Gruev did today and controls it better. I agree though. I thought he did really well other than that.
