I'll be there Tuesday hoping we can turn the corner. I just can't take to the bloke though. I can't listen to his post match Interviews but he won't mind that. Having had managers like SCP and Lord Bowyer who united the players fans and manager I want that again, but sadly our expectations have been lowered.
I'll be honest. I've seen one post match interview with Appleton, andveven when we win I go and do the dishes when he pops up post match. I missed a good part of the second half as I was driving to a match here (a fine 3-0 away win by Calella!!) and the bit I saw on my mobile, I honestly thought we were down to ten men. The first half we looked a lot better, and even played a lot of our passing in forward areas, but as usual the defence came alive to sink us. And now everyone wants a new manager. I didn't see anything in Apples CV to recommend him. So now we have a poor manager, who we can consider removing, allowing the same people who appointed him to have another try. It makes no sense to me. How many managers have we sacked in recent seasons? We still need new players. If we sack Apples, who will want to sign.
It depends on how much the Club wants to stay in League One. We have a punishing fixture list coming up. Much harder than the previous couple of months. By the end of February, I would now say it is more likely than not that Charlton will be in the bottom four. So we can be in the bottom four with Appleton, who has lost all credibility and will surely lose the majority of fans soon, and the dressing room. Or we can be in the bottom four with a new gaffer. Maybe no better than Apples, but at least free of the baggage of his failure. In 2014 it worked with Jose Riga. In 2016 it didn't work with Jose Riga. It's a desperate throw of the dice. But at least it offers a slim chance - more than if the Club doesn't throw the dice. Appleton should be sacked before the end of February - UNLESS Charlton win three of their next five games. Which isn't going to happen.
It might be wrong to throw a new manager in at a time when we're facing such a tough fixture list. But anything less than a win on Tuesday and the feelings of the fans will put intense pressure on Apples.
As I see it he now has better tools to do the job, they need a little time to gel but he really needs to utilise the right players in their correct positions - a defeat on Tuesday night will be the last straw I think. The defence still worries me
Trouble is he doesn't have any gelling time. We have tough fixtures now. Good teams chasing top 6 or automatic. We've just come out of a run of "easier" games, all thrown away. Those journeymen have to show some character on Tuesday evening. Bite their legs. Get stuck in. We made 7 fouls against Burton. Didn't even get their kit dirty as they mugged us.
It's been reported by several fans that Alfie was raging at the end, ran 50 yards to make a tackle which should have been a red, according to Curbs and Brownie. And as he walked off was heard to say something like "that was sh1te, can't even pass". Quite worrying. We had loads of possession but mostly in our own half. I just want to see my team win games, not try and look pretty.
100 %! I do feel things will get better but ffs it’s taken so long time to get to this , still not sure Apples is the right man to progress us
If true, Alfie is upset with players as well as Appleton. Could he see how things are and think f*** it, I want to go?
