Huge result for Ipswich that especially with coming from behind against a decent team. Be fascinating to see how their match with Ipswich goes.
I always say, just look after ourselves and look upwards, no need to look over our shoulders. We may well falter for a while at some point but so might Ipswich again and Leeds.
Yeah loads of twists and turns to come yet. I'm not really bothered about watching out for others results at this point. Just enjoy the season and whatever will be, will be.
Me neither. Still, bet Birmingham are happy about that, they ended up being the biggest winners of Sunderland's decisions.
Interestingly, I’ve read, and I’ve not fact checked but don’t see why they’d lie…that if Leeds win their next 3 (Preston H, Norwich H, Bristol City A) they will move ahead of us (though we’ll have 2 games in hand on them). Adds another dimension to this battle for autos. Remains to be seen how we will deal with being chased rather than being the hunter. That said Ipswich are playing Leicester at the right time so wouldn’t be surprised if they beat them and reclaim 2nd anyway.
Just been looking at the table and while the top 4 are basically sewn up - and I personally don't see wba dropping out of play offs - the race for the final play off spot still involves so many teams. Only 3 points separated Coventry in 6th and Boro in 11th! And it will be 12th were Preston to beat Leeds tomorrow. Pretty much all of those clubs will believe they have a shot of sneaking into the play offs. Which justifies their existence imo as it makes the season maintain its interest for long periods.
It's definitely a weird edition of the Championship. Not uncommon to have a breakaway pack, but the combination of the top four and the poor performers at the other end means that much of the league is an undifferentiated lump that is a couple good or bad results from being in 5th or 15th. Meanwhile, Ipswich's current position, relative to the same time last year, would have seen them 14 points clear of third, and with a game in hand to boot.
Agreed. I'm glad the play-offs exist - but I've long wanted them to make it fairer by changing it from ABBA to AABB. A1 hosts A2. B1 hosts B2. A Winner makes the final. A Loser plays B Winner, for a right to join A Winner in the final. Means that the higher up you finish in the play-offs, the greater your chances are.
Personally I wouldn't, because that removes the home advantage of the side who finishes higher. All matches (except the final) hosted by the team who finished higher. But it is the one aspect which I'm pretty relaxed about, one leg or two. If it was to be two legs still. then OK.
Fair enough. I love a two legged cup tie (essentially what play offs are) myself. Feel they have a kind of old school vibe about them.
Have to feel for Ipswich. Best performing promoted side in years but have 3 other great sides to compere with.
Yeah, one of (and possibly two of) Leicester, ourselves, Ipswich and Leeds will be not be promoted no matter how well they perform relative to the other 20 teams, and man will that team feel that the cosmos has it in for them.
