I think any striker signing is pointless unless we start creating more chances. I still can't grasp how we start a striker against Preston who then scores and then drop him.

Theres literally no explanation for that, and its very disheartening that our new manager thinks that was an acceptable decision to make.

Agreed, if we’re talking about paying £1.5m for this lad from L2, why don’t we just go for Shankland from Hearts.
Plays in a much better league, scores for fun, similar age & price.
    Just sayin…….

Think people are seeing his goalscoring record and assuming he can replicate it 2 levels higher

Hearts want double that for shankland

Shankland would be better that longstaff imo but the standard at the top of L2 is better than a lot of the spl

I have been holding off posting about Langstaff because I didnt want to get to involved, having previously been clear I wanted championship ready players. However, I have seen a bit of him up close, I have pals who watch him week in week out, and I know a couple of coaches who know a bit about him.

When I have seen him it is noticeable he is always in an excellent position in. He splits the centre halves, he takes up natural front post and back post positions to lose his man, and he is always on the spot if something falls in the 6 yard box. He is first to follow in on a shot. He looks like a real old school 'fox in the box' type to me.

Fans I know say he is only interested in goals, to the detriment of other things. For them that is what he is and he is so good at it they dont mind. They say he is as strong as a bull when on the ball in the box. Two footed and can use his head. They think his strength is snap finishes and rarely misses the target. Messaged one tonight and asked if he could step up. He said definitely but top end championship is an unknown. His last words is if there are any scraps in the box he will finish them in any league.

I suppose I am uncertain on him. The step up is big. However, I wouldnt be upset if he is the one we turn to in this window. There are an awful lot of players around league 1 and 2 who should be playing higher. Why cant he be another late bloomer and smash his way onto the scene. I am a bit of a romantic and I would love to see another Vardy type. As a supporter I would probably opt for him over Moore, whose style troubles me. If Langstaff comes in and is as hungry as I think he is, we might unearth a bit of a gem.

‘Boro could be losing a player who has featured heavily for them this season

Fair assessment this. Id agree about his positional play n finishing is very good - takes shots early n strikes cleanly. Where i worry about him is his all round game with us n he lacks the pace to truly stretch the game, both areas didnt stand out when i watched him

I know a lot keep saying vardy was a late developer, the difference that he had was unreal pace which causes defenses problems at any level

Hope if it is him he can adapt to the quality of the championship quickly

There's a lad playing in the Conference that I'd love to see step up. I'd never mention his name on here because I don't think he's quite good enough for us and I wouldn't want to start a transfer rumour but I'd love to see it.

They exist mate. We just need a bit more old school scouting to find them. Hopefully somebody sees what you see and he gets a chance.

Aye pace helped Vardy. He was also hungry, had a point to prove, and didnt care who he trod on to make it. Real non league attitude of dog eat dog.

I watched Che Adams for a few months in non league football. He had all the ability, it was as clear as day. He was quick and explosive as well. It was crystal clear to me he was at least a championship player in the making. Watch enough players and the levels become clear. I told a couple of clubs higher up the food chain about him but they didnt send a scout. Still a stick ai beat them with.

I coached a lad at u16 recently who is levels ahead. He can be whatever he wants, but he has to want it. I went to see him over Christmas where he was on the bench for a non league side. He came and warmed up next to me and we talked (love non league <laugh>) and asked if he would play and he actually said probably not, I am a filler. I bollocked him, he is so much better. He got 15 mins and shone. I had a coffee in the bar after with him and tried to hammer him on attitude. He is to laid back. His hunger isnt there. Makes me cry a bit to be honest. A couple of years ago same thing, best lad I ever coached, and 2 others coaches said the same, stepped away at 16 to focus on school. Fair enough, and I spent hours talking to parents, but I see him now around and about and he is loving Uni and has bit hopes.

Sorry, loads of rambling nonsense, but if Langstaff has the hunger and the talent we might do ok.

Look at where his goals this season have came from. Not sure we've had a player enter the 6 yard box all season.

Well, I've watched this lad loads so hopefully the club will take him on my recommendation!

In all seriousness though, I reckon he could definitely play League 1. Strong, fast, good work ethic, good finisher. I know league clubs have looked at him. Late bloomer though. I don't think he realised how good he could be if he worked at it until he was in to his 20s.

There are definitely players in non-league worth looking at. I've said before there are usually a couple of lads each season who get football league moves even from the level I'm scouting at.

Personally speaking I like strikers with pace at the top. Defenders hate it. Pace and movement. Aye you’ve got to be able to strike a ball but chances come when you can turn defenders. Hearing Langstaff hasn’t that puts me off if I’m honest.
