They will be dancing in the streets of Ijmuiden and Haarlem …….

If EAF steel making is the answer, it must have been a bloody stupid question…..

If Covid taught us anything, it was we need to have UK manufacturing capability be it for pharmaceuticals, PPE etc …. including steel making.

I’m not a Socialist, and I’m not someone who believes that the State should own ‘everything’, but steel could/should be regarded as a strategic industry….. the Governent rolled over for Tata with regard the huge amount they (Tata) saved on changing the Pension Scheme, they should have said give us the keys and we will run Porf Talbot under a blast furnace configuration using Hydrogen to reduce emissions.* - see below

It will be swept under the carpet, some excuses will come out and it will end up being a fine no points deduction.

I wrote about Hydrogen yesterday evening: this was on the BBC we page this morning:

Job losses did not have to be case - energy analyst
Energy analyst Jess Ralston, from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), says that 3,000 job losses "is obviously devastating - but particularly devastating when you realise this didn't have to be the case".

Ralston tells BBC Radio 4's Today programme that there was an option to replace the blast furnace in Port Talbot for a hydrogen furnace - a cleaner means of creating virgin steel.

This change, she says, is common across Europe to shore up domestic production.

She adds: "It's going to be quite a period of turmoil for the people who work in this plant, especially because they know we could have done something different and potentially kept their jobs."

Ralston says the government and Tata could have worked together to make a longer term transition plan.

But the lack of a plan in reality "is probably what's going to be most frustrating to people".

The incompetents that have run this country for the few not the many over the years have disabled uk on many fronts through bad strategies and corruption. To the point that we no longer control our laws , border, manufacturing, military and much more which is influenced and dictated by foreign powers and courts, be they America, eu, bankers and globalist etc !

Soon to be the culling of one of a nation's main staples. Blast furnace Steel production on a scale required to keep things running normally. Plus with all the talk of WW3 with Russia, China, Iran now and current wars escalating further. wer'e at the mercy of inferior Chinese and Indian ( foreign steel .

the new queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier may be the last major defence ship well see built here before were wasting more big money and jobs to foreign production. Not to mention how we relied on foreign ( russian) gas till Putin shut the tap off causing big problems for the West on top of a perfect storm of convid and accelerated immigration and new wars food price rises etc ?

Socialism doesn't work but has some good points, in theory. Humans don't work "in theory" though, they work by greed. Well, those in power and control do. Total socialism is just another form of control by greed.

I do believe the state should (still <grr>) own almost everything and then the situation outlined by swantastic wouldn't be as bleak. Nearly but not quite. Society and life as we knew it is changing rapidly and there's no going back.
