Nobody suggested just carrying on, infact @Scout73 quite literally said we need to move it quicker. But attempting to overhaul the style of play mid season when you have recruited for a certain style is not possible at a high level.

O'Nien doesn't have the technical ability to play defensive midfield at the top end of the championship. He'd be fine out of possession but would cause major issues when we have the ball. He has a good passing range when he has time, and can carry the ball but thats not what we need in the middle. Look at the way Dan Neil receives the ball on the half turn, O'Nien can't do that.

Neil played him in midfield at the back end of the promotion season and then as soon as we were promoted he removed him from the position.

Might be true that Onien isnt good enough to play cdm at this level and struggles with playing with his back to the opposition, but has he even been given a fair try in that role? Especially since his move to CB.

I think its pretty fair to say that Onien has improved as a footballer quite a bit since moving to CB so whats to say he cant bring those improvements into a new role. Of all the roles hes played here, IMO he looks best at CB but it looks like Ekwah isnt good enough to do the CDM role, and Seelt needs to be given a chance, I dont see why we shouldnt give it a try, there's not a lot to lose by trying.

Scout 73 said he would rather we bought a CDM, well he may be waiting a while, and if we dont do that?

We've played the majority of this season without what might be described as a specialist holding midfielder. We've won plenty of games. Neil and Ekwah can both play the role if required. If we don't bring one in, I imagine we'll carry on as we have been. If we do bring one in, all well and good.

We have also lost too many games

Yep we do need to bring in a CDM but we shouldnt overhaul the tactics. We need to move the ball quicker through the lines, you do that by keeping possession thrn waiting for the right time to find the feet of our forwards

Dan neil should be used as the deepest cm at the minute until we bring one in

The season has hardly been a disaster like folk are making out, we just need to make small tweaks to our style of play

Like the last one then

So fiddling while Rome burns

What harm would it have done trying it against Ipswich?
Yes 'Rome burns' while we are sat level on points with the playoffs. I'd hate to see how you react to an actual bad season. Fanbase really needs to calm down and see how the end of the window plays out, there's barely any movement across the PL or Championship yet, as is always the case.

If you are happy watching this turgid laboured slow ****e in our own half, you have a different idea of the game to me

Noone has said we are happy with the performances, just dont need to radically change the system n style of play

Last seasom was possession based but we just knew when to play through the lines quicker n the aim was to get the ball to our flair players quickly but it wss still possession based

Stop being so dramatic man. Point out where I said I was happy? I have said multiple times on multiple threads that we need to move the ball quicker, I wanted a coach that had a track record of a quicker style of play, I think we should've been more active in the market both in the summer and in this window. But frankly my opinion or any fans opinion on the playing side of things does not matter at all. I trust the club to get it right because in my view they've done a lot more positive than negative.

What do you think has 'gone wrong' / changed on the pitch from last year? TBF stats could show that not a lot has changed, but on the eye test I feel like the last 3 months we have been quite poor to watch and way less creative going forwards from last season or even at times at the start of this one. Could be totally wrong with this mind but just how it feels watching us to me

Think we are making too many safe passes this season, this is slowing attacks dwn n allowing teams to get players behind the ball

Then in the final 3rd we simply do not get enough players in the box, need runners from deep causing confusion but it's not happening. I think cirkin has been a big loss, he was brilliant last season either under or over laping clarke which gave us an extra attacker at times. Hume doesnt offer us that from RB.

The key for me is move the ball through the lines quickly and always ensure we have 6 players on an attack, the other 4 offer defensive cover to block counters. The 4 defensive ones should be 1 fullback, 1cdm n the 2xcbs

Also we have too many players thst want to come towards the ball, need players willing to run in behind to stretch the game for us

Just my thoughts anyway

Cheers, makes sense. Been a major problem with full backs this season, I like Hume, but felt like Huggins was on the verge of replacing him as first choice RB, the goal against Watford is something you just wouldnt see from Hume. Alese has also looked a bit hesitant to push forward (still early days for him mind).

I know the problems with bodies in the box is evident but we had Gelhardt upfront last year when playing some good stuff and hes not a traditional 9. I think the impact Diallo had was way bigger than I thought, think his presence just created more space for the likes of Clarke and Roberts and got them in more dangerous positions with less defenders to face.

Like you said earlier, we are only some tweaks away from getting back to that and maybe some more confidence into the players will help, just hoping this isnt becoming our permanent style.

Bally was great for us in midfield and the position Luke would be in, most of the play would be in front of him, so I dont understand your argument. (I have a thick get out clause)

Wasn't trying to compare the two as players...more their spirit. However, when I've seen, when Luke has played in midfield and the ball goes in front of him and then behind, which it often does in midfield,he's very slow to react. From that,I just don't think he's a good midfield player.
