Had me confused for a minute - given that Arsenal won 5-1. Not a bad effort by the Golden Girls really - Arsenal being one of top sides in Europe.
Seens the potential investors have been revealed. And Gino might be in a bit of bother but this sort of story seems to come out once or twice every year. https://elpais.com/deportes/2024-01...on-el-traspaso-de-futbolistas.html?ssm=TW_CM#
Oh dear - this is the British media now although doesn't seem to involve us as a club. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...tence-for-watfords-gino-pozzo-over-tax-claims
What sort of show do the Spaniards run? The case has been dropped as there's no evidence of money laundering but they still want to jail him?
According to a Pozzos spokesman tbf who is hardly going to say anything else but defend them but we'll see. Anyway if it's anything like with Messi/Ronaldo the worse this will be is a fine which I am sure will disappoint a few fans who seem keen to see Pozzo jailed straight away. After all some murders don't get 12 years!
My suspicion is that the Pozzos have sailed close to the wind with their complex of different companies. I believe that the ultimate company that holds money in Watford is based in Luxenbourg. Spain seems to be very poor when it comes to applying the tax laws of the country. There have been several occasions when they have tried to bring people before the courts years after the supposed crimes. Having dropped the case already, to try and have a second bite is not that clever.
In Spain it is quite regular to pay a fine rather than face a trial and possible guilty verdict. This has happened a number of times over recent years particularly within the sports industry (I think Nadal had issues back arround 2011 as an example). The ex Chairman of Granada paid a negotiated fine supposedly around e9 million so I think this is just posturing from the prosecuters at this stage in the hope of getting an agreed settlement from Gino.
Yes and Messi not so long ago. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-36721892 Mind you guess it wouldn’t look good for us or Pozzo to have a jail term hanging over him .
Got my tickets for the Southampton game today but what a pantomime, I didn't receive the E-Mail from the club but found out on the Watford website, clicked the link and when it got to proceed with order it said tickets were not available, so I tried again this time it said only my wife's ticket was available at £15, tried to ring the ticket office but they were too busy please ring later, tried the link again this time both tickets were available but when it came to purchasing it said I cannot pay for a pensioners ticket at an adult price, rang again and was put on a waiting list, eventually got a reply and it was because my wife is now able to buy tickets at the lower price because of her recent birthday, the same computer was saying my wives ticket was available at £15 but on another page it was saying I couldn't buy the ticket because it should be £10, it was sorted out but that was an hour of my life that I cannot get back Our club do no help themselves a lot of the time
Nothing is ever easy or straightforward with buying tickets! I was an A* category supporter until lockdown and my last match was that Crystal Palace game. Offered a year's grace on away games and given Mrs Fez' on going issues I took advantage of the offer. Only to find myself in Cat C this season. Cue an email pointing out that I was being unduly punished for taking them up on their offer! Back into Cat A. Then C. Then A. Then C... ad nauseum! I'm back in A and seem to be staying there after another exchange in which I pointed out how ridiculous it was that the system kept resetting itself. Hours that I won't get back indeed!
Wait till the match, you may find that's 90 mins you won't get back! Ps I'm going as well and hopeful of a win and a long cup run
Back to reality now, saw the results but missed the last 6 games really. Who's been playing well in those games for us? Not quite in the play-offs but think we were in 9th when I went to the coast, 8th now. At least we can win away now. Do you reckon we might make the play-offs?
I think we have had a lot of luck particularly defensively from poor shooting by opponents plus hamer has kept us in a few games... plus we have scored goals from at times very few shots per game.... If we turn this into confidence i see no reason why we cant get enough points for a play off place..... but we cant afford slip ups either... I wouldnt bet on it tho either
All depends on which Watford turn up! If the first half performance against QPR is the measure, then we can forget it! Never going to catch the top two or three, but I think 4th isn't outside of the realms of achievable, 5th or 6th more realistic. As to who's been playing well for us, that seems to be a bit of a moving target. Kayembe (now injured) has probably been the outstanding player overall. Ryan Andrews and Jake Livermore have been quite consistent, but there seems to be no other outfield players really maintaining a high level. DB isn't getting back in on merit anytime soon by the looks, Hamer has taken his chance thus far and with some aplomb! If you get the opportunity to watch the whole of the 3-3 draw at Plymouth then do so: sensational game! 90+ minutes of "highlights".
