Morning Guys, My father in law passed away last week, and in his house were a number of VHS tapes of my wife and siblings with him when they were younger. We have managed to get the VHS playing through our TV with a Scart to HDMI converter, but want I would like to do is get them converted into mp4 files on my laptop if possible. Has anyone done this, and if so, what adapters/converters do I need? I've looked on YT and most involve RCA cables which this VCR doesn't have the ports for - it is purely Scart
There's lots of companies offering this service and they don't seem all that expensive (even Asda offer the service, though theirs doesn't seem that cheap).
If you have the converter cable you just need a hdmi capture device. They’re like a usb stick with a hdmi input, that you can use to record whatever is played through it. Then just plug it into your pc and save it on there.
Put vhs to digital recorder into ebay. You'll get everything you need for about £10.99. I did all my tapes and it worked really well. If you haven’t got AV connections on your VHS player, you can get a scart converter that will link them to the laptop. It's really easy but time consuming as you transfer the data in real time.
My son in law’s old work converts them from vhs to dvd discs, Don’t think it’s overly expensive, they’re in Driffield but he now lives in Spain in 20degrees lucky bugger.
