Good Morning. It's Wednesday 17th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Steinsson set to raid former club for star defender Leeds Utd Technical Director Grétar Steinsson may use his contacts at Spurs to take Ben Davies to Elland Road. The former Icelandic International spent 13 months at Tottenham Hotspur as Performance Director before joining Leeds last Summer. He was instrumental in bringing Djed Spence and Joe Rodon to Elland Road this season and maintains a good relationship with their hierarchy. Spurs have just shelled out £26.7m for Radu Dragusin, which undoubtedly will push Davies down the pecking order, but his versatility could still make him a valuable asset for Ange Postecoglou's squad. He is well versed at centre-back and left back; positions where Leeds are particularly light, not to mention he is Welsh (a prerequisite it seems for any Leeds signing this window). Postecoglou obviously thinks a lot of the Welshman. He already has over 1700 minutes of game time under his belt. Even with the arrival of Dragusin, will they be willing to part with one of their better squad players? Whites receive multiple bids for wantaway defender Leeds have received multiple bids for wantaway defender Charlie Cresswell. According to Leeds-Live, Millwall are the latest in a long line of clubs to have thrown their hats into the ring. Exact details of the bids have not been disclosed, though it has been suggested that none of them come close to Leeds £4m - £5m valuation. The 21yo looks certain to leave Elland Road this month after falling out of favour with Daniel Farke. Big things were expected from the England U21 centre back after playing a starring role for the Lions last season. His campaign was cut short after dislocating his eye socket in early April, but still managed to rack up circa 2500 minutes of game time. please log in to view this image Leeds had no interest in guaranteeing Carvalho game time Elland Road journalist Beren Cross has insisted that talks regarding Fabio Carvalho between Liverpool and Leeds broke down as Daniel Farke was unwilling to guarantee the 21yo game time (and the fact that he wasn't Welsh). Many were surprised when the Portuguese U21 star signed for Hull until the end of the season; the smell of fish alone is enough to turn ones stomach! They were so happy with their capture, that they took to social media to poke fun at Leeds and Southampton using a 'Blind Date' meme. please log in to view this image
Just wondering, Im sure someone will have the stats but how many Championship clubs pay 4 or 5m for a player in January. I suspect few. Thankfully weather due to warm up from Saturday substantially, I wouldn't fancy the thoughts of trudging around Leeds in this perishing cold
Clubs like Villa, Sheff Utd, Bournemouth, Norwich have all exceeded £5m purchases when going for Promotion. Nobody else could afford to gamble. Due to FFFP rules now being tougher not many in our league could do it. Although hearing that Saints and Ipswich are interested, especially Ipswich who’s new owner is very tempted
Was just thinking whether the Roma situation is muddying the waters regards potential transfer activity? We have 2 defenders with them, and with them having a new Manager/Coach in place, he might fancy bringing in a few new faces, which could have implications for us. If both came back to Leeds, it would solve part (maybe not all) of our lack of defensive numbers. Certainly the risk of them returning would be an issue for FFP if we had already brought others in. I personally don’t want either of them back, but I suspect they could do a job in the Championship.
Id imagine having lads coming back on 50 or 60k a week would be a no no where ffp would be concerned. Well have to get all those rats off the books some way
Here is one out of left field and not something I’ve heard, just something that I thought of. Spurs and Leeds have a relationship due to Steinsson. Discount the Ben Davies thing but Japhet Tanganga has been recalled from Augsburg and is being sent out on loan again. This kid has massive potential plays CB or either side full back and is one for the future at Spurs, the plan was to have him in next seasons first team squad. He’s played for the Spurs first team under Jose and Conti?
They are on a season long loan, unless we agree to take them back then Roma are lumbered with them. Which hopefully will be the case.
There you go Eire, last 6 January transfer windows for the Championship. (Team in bold paid by the highest fee that transfer window) Data from transfermarkt.com and only confirmed fees at that time included
Except that doesn't count for international loan transfers, as both myself and Elland mentioned a few months ago https://www.not606.com/threads/the-lufc-breakfast-debate-tuesday-5th-september.408485/#post-16979255
Ben Davies is currently injured expected to be fit mid Feb, I can’t really see any point in getting him in on loan.
Spurs now confirm Tanganga will be going out on loan to the Championship. At least I guessed correct this morning fingers crossed for this one Leeds should move for Tanganga Given that Leeds need both a right-back and potentially central defender, Tanganga would be the ideal signing as he is more than capable of playing both positions. In his 50 senior appearances for Spurs, Tanganga has played a very similar number in each position
They would return on a reduced wage, that’s why the loan clause was in place. The options are play for us at a reduced wage, or go out on loan to any team willing to pay more
Given what we now know about this season if we'd kept Wober, Kristensen & Rodrigo we'd probably have been above Leicester, or at least level with them. Hey ho
Leeds way too slow as Tanganga is on his way to Milwall on loan, which also means the wall will not be buying or loaning Charlie Cresswell.
