Geography and somehow flogging players they bought for a tenner for daft money... like Southampton did. Short life span.
As soon as Leicester won the title I said they'd be relegated and never win the league again. Clubs like them can't hold on to their top players and eventually bring the wrong replacements/manager in. Brighton are doing great, and I'd swap places in a second, but it'll all go wrong eventually imo.
Take this with a pinch of salt because it could be absolute nonsense but I’m pretty certain I’m right here.. The pinch of salt bit is because I’ve played a lot of FM and this is exactly how it works on that but generally they’re pretty spot on with things like this;; In Brazil a lot of clubs have release clauses inserted in players contracts that are higher for domestic clubs than foreign teams. No idea if it’s true throughout South America (might well be though because Brighton have just triggered Barcos for about £7m). With WP rules being relaxed for non-eu players you can essentially sell for big money here then pay a release clause for a replacement on the cheap.
Brighton owe their owner Tony Bloom 400 million so not exactly small change. his money was put it Via directors loans and allowed them to spend heavily on data analytics and recruitment which seems to be paying dividends. Bearing in mind the Mags were bought for 350 million that is a significant investment from an owner and the club would need to pay that back if he ever decided to sell up or to recall his directors loan.
Barca selling 49% of “Barca Studios” for €200m.. https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/barca-prepara-fichar-96933125
I haven't really understood the FFP rules,so,if Bloom converted his loan into share capital,he would realise that money through the sale of his shares,as and when he sold, which would relieve the club of any liability to repay....have I got that right? Similarly, the £350m the Saudi rulers paid for NUFC went straight to Mike Ashley for his controlling interest,so not to the club itself. It's the investments in the club following that attract the FFP interest.....or am I lost off with it?
Just been on SSN there that Forest blew their FFP because Brennan Johnson turned down a move to Brentford before the June cut off. If he’d went there they would’ve been fine but he went later in the window
Yeah, discussed this in some depth with @Chunksafc yesterday Don't think there's an easy answer to get into a competitive position in the Premier league it takes money, good planning and luck. Otherwise every club would be competitive. It's just the hope that we could be that club that keeps you coming back. I certainly wouldn't want to mortgage the future of the club to get there.
About bloody time…although they won’t say what the actual date is. You can tell the Premier League are gearing up for something big with all the clamp downs recently. Manchester City charges: Premier League says date has been set for hearing https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67993371
If they’re found guilty, the magnitude of cheating (100+ separate charges) deserves them to get the harshest of penalties. Everyone can see the bending and breaking of rules through the premier league to try and get an advantage over other teams. The whole league should be properly scrutinised and clubs punished with relegations like the Italians did with their top teams. It’s got to the point there’s very little competition to win anything and therefore it’s stopping short of being a sport.
The problem is clubs can generate cash in ways that is cheating. Ie Man City owner owns Ettihad Airways, who sponsor Man City at the rate of £900m per season, because why not?
Dead easy to sort that out. Don’t allow sponsorships from companies that the club owner has a direct involvement in. Otherwise, if you’re going to allow this blatant loophole, just allow owners to pump in as much money as they can so they don’t have to pretend
Evening Smug. My conspiracy on Leicester is while yes they started like a house on fire, I think it got to the point where other teams including some of the big team though "imagine if Leicester won the leauge"? Too many One Nills in a row, "blowing teams away. Part of me thinks they got help to win the leauge. I remember Chelsea more so Hazard downed tools for the season near the beginning of the seaon, but he didn't half show up when they played Spurs to make sure Spurs didn't win the league and Leicester did. Very odd ropey seaon that and a season alot more people took more notice of. Just my opinion like.
