I'm not even blaming Allsop for being bang average, I'm blaming LR for knowing this and still bringing him in.
£250k for a few month 'stop gap'? OK, that's not a lot of money, but add in a 2 year contract, all for a few month 'stop gap'? Surely you'd just go for someone on a half season or season long loan wouldn't you? This sports journo didn't see it as a stop gap or 5th choice.. Hull City have completed a £250,000 move for Cardiff City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop, who was identified as their top choice by manager Liam Rosenior. It seems some go to lengths to defend poor decisions when the reality is blindingly obvious.
Stop gap as No1. Yes. We still need a no2, and Ingram probably has a higher market value so makes sense to cash in on him and retain Allsop as backup. In championship terms this isn't a significant outlay on Allsop. You don't go from targeting Darlow on 30k pw as No1 to Alsopp for 250k unless it's to bridge a gap. They're at completely different ends of the budget. Think you're making assumptions that aren't there tbh.
Give it up. Yep, Darlow became out of reach, so then Rosenior targetted Allsop as his trusted No.1. Then we have Lo-Tutala who was our longer term solution. Another one that's worked out well . (not blaming Rosenior for that as it was before his time before anyone says anything). As a club we haven't half spunked time, effort, money and opportunity cost. ..... yeah, but you can't expect every signing to work out
That's from Football League World isn't it? A bit of a stretch to call them journalists, they just rehash bits from local rags. I doubt he was first choice and Rosie was aware that many weren't impressed when he arrived... "Neither did Regan Slater, neither did I when I signed. I was a free. I was signed for a bag of chips - hopefully large - not that I don't care about what the fans think, I really do care about what supporters think, I want them to enjoy watching us play, I want them to love what we do. If I were to go on Twitter, Instagram or whatever to gauge who we should sign, I don't think I'd be in a job very long. There are reasons we make signings," the Tigers head coach tells Hull Live. "We all want to make signings for £10m or £15m. I would actually prefer to sign players cheaper and they become £10m and £15m players, that's my job. "I don't know what the reaction is because I don't read it, and if I did read it, I'd probably look even older than I do at the moment. I'm really pleased he's come here. He trained and I think it was good that the players saw exactly why I signed him, let me put it that way. "He gives us an element that I really like in the way we want to play. he's confident, he's a good character, he speaks really well. he's a popular player in the dressing room and he's someone we identified a long time ago to help us get to where we want to get to. "Ryan is someone we've got on a really good deal, by the way, he's played 43 games in the Championship last season. He's not a terrible goalkeeper, I was at Derby with him, and there were, I would say six, seven or eight Championship clubs trying to sign Ryan when I was at Derby for a reason and he chose Cardiff."
Ingram aint that good as a shot stopper ffs, he is better then Allsop agreed, but ffs let's not get carried away here, we saw the difference when a proper shot stopper came in made to us, alas Darlow was too expensive. I swear some of you look through rose tinted glasses at times.
I don’t know. Maybe. I wouldn’t think settling debts with assets is illegal though, even in football.
Not having heard of a player isn’t a good reason to begrudge signing them. However, the people who were familiar with Allsop quite well (Cardiff fans) said he was ****e at saving. They were 100% correct.
What, we're expected to develop players into 10m signings in the space between Summer and January now are we? But I wouldn't bet against one of those being Philogene, which is where the bulk of our budget went in summer. Recent history there's been KLP and Bowen. If the reported Oscar deal is correct we've made a good return on him as afree also. I expect there'll be a fair old profit on Greaves, Jones and Slater when they eventually leave also.
Looking forward to us selling Allsop for £10m plus And Furlong, Lokilo, Connolly, Sharp, Simons, Celi, ..... Yes, Philo was one hell of a signing. Fair play.
Right, cos every signing is supposed to be one of those eh? Take a look around at other clubs in our bracket. What you're expecting is cloud cuckoo land.
Dream on - we only paid £5 million for Philogene - we'd be lucky to get that much for all three of them - the day of anyone doing a Boro and wanting to buy Greaves for £5 million are long gone
TWT. But considering Greaves was free, Slater 50k and Jones negligible we'll stand to make a decent profit even at 5m.
@Howdentiger2 do Villa have a sell-on clause for Philogene separate from the buy-back clause? Remember reading about that. If so, do you know what percent?
It's Tan via Baz that reported it. Article will probably be on hull live and I think there was a TK interview either on Humberside or tigers+ also. Only mentioned a 15m buy back that was activated if us and Villa were in the same league.
