We need a striker and January isn’t an easy window to sign one in. I wouldn’t be against Devante Cole as a signing. Looks athletic and will help occupy defenders allowing Carvalho and Philogene to get to work.
He’s only played in the Championship for one season and Barnsley were appalling that season, they finished bottom of the table, below Derby who’d had a 21 point deduction.
Devante Cole?!! And some saying it wouldn't be a bad signing. Really!?! Billy Sharp and now Devante Cole. WTF. Hopefully bs
We need wingers for Rosenior to be able to successfully implement his style. Due to injury (Philogene), transfers not working out (Sinik, Lokilo) and lack of experience (Vaughan) he has been forced into playing his ‘Plan B’ as our main approach. Playing with a lack of width worked to an extent with Delap excelling in this area. I imagine he is desperate to go back to his preferred style, so wouldn’t we surprised to see Benson/Zaroury and Ray-Sakyi come in. We need depth as well as numbers - otherwise he cannot just change personnel from the bench but would always have to change formation.
I see Rak-Sakyi is back in full training, so perhaps it is an option. It’s a shame that both him and Keinan Davis fell through at the final hurdle - if these had gone through we wouldn’t be scratching around as much as we are.
I hope, truly hope im wrong, but I can see this all imploding and Philo being off at the end of the season.. with no chance of signing Delap (which might have been a dream a few weeks ago) and of course Morton. This is a major rebuild now....
It's a major rebuild in the scenario you've created. In reality we only stand to lose Morton and Delap
Glass half full kind of guy No evidence Philo will be off, but if he goes we will have a good war chest to fund a better push for promotion. More chance of Delap now returning to us next season, due to a spell on the sidelines. Carvalho arriving in the best piece of loan business we have ever done. Raising the profile of the club and the likelihood more players will follow suit in the future. Trusted by Liverpool and Man City to develop their biggest talents. If this is imploding, then implode away!
I also fear that losing our fourth best loan player is an omen of our impending doom. And a disgruntled Philo will now chuck in his hand, probably injure himself out of spite (laughing) whilst we hoover up the pieces headlong to League 2
Realistically, how much 'building for the future' can you do these days in the Championship? The kind of players we need to bring in to tip us into the play offs are going to be expensive, so you can only buy one or two, especially in January. Otherwise you are relying on loans, which are limited in terms of how many you can bring in too. If your players get too good, they get bought by PL teams. If they aren't good enough, you slip down the table. Some clubs have done it like Luton, but they didn't have anywhere near the turnover behind the scenes or on the pitch we've seen over the last couple of years. Yes I think we'd all like this to be better and quicker, but building a strong deep squad takes time, especially when we clearly wasted the first 2 transfer windows under Acun.
Allsop isn't a wasted signing just because we're now bringing in a young long term option. Allsop was cheap and was always going to be a shorter term solution. Honestly it's as if people think we can just sign 11 23-24 year olds who will play for us for the next ten years.
Jeez… that’s one hell of a leap. Why not carry on the doom train and suggest Acun will have had enough and sell the club too
