Potential upgrade for Ball I'd listed as required. So I also think this is a sensible signing, on ther hand Agree that it's not top priority. Hope next two are a striker and RB. That would complete a good set of incoming.

Then we could get started with pruning the edges of the squad.

Teams don’t sell deadly strikers in January, if they do, they sell them at inflated prices.

We don’t shop in the same store as you, we used to, but we aim for a bit more quality now ;)

Saying that, Romano states all top 6 are interested in Carvalho on loan

Leeds United and quality is an oxymoron.

Didn't realise it was the end of the season, if we are below you at the end of the season it will mean we are battling for 6th so that will be a worry ;)

I’ll judge positions after an entire season, we beat Ipswich 4-0 and did the double over them, finishing lower would feel disappointing

So we’re pinning everything on a couple of head to heads, but not judging anything until the 46 games are played. Makes perfect sense.

Do you want to have a read of what I said a bit slower this time, I’ve made it bold for you. It might help a bit.

Am I right in reading that you think Ipswich will be battling for 6th at the end of the season??

I’ve heard a few opposition fans say similar and it baffles me. I’m very much a realist with all things ITFC and well aware we could fall off a cliff but nothing in the past 12 months would point toward that level of drop off in form.

Last season 69 points got you 6th place.. we sit on 58 points with 19 (NINETEEN) games to go…

We’ve lost 3 games all season. (only lost to 2 different clubs)

We would need to show form far worse than Rotherham between now and May to not hit 70 points.. I don’t think there is anything from the first 27 games (Large sample size) to suggest that

I would also point out that no side has ever got 90 points and not got promoted.. in normal circumstances we need 32 points from 19 which in itself would mean we could drop to 1.7ppg where we’re currently at 2.15ppg over the first 27 games..

Knowing Ipswich though I would probably predict that this season will be the highest ever points total for teams finishing 3rd & 4th.. much like L1 last season.. So 90 points might not even be enough, but I’m confident Ipswich will get close to 90, if not surpass it

It's incredible isn't it ,"little old Ipswich" battling it out with the three relegated PL sides for automatic promotion!

I think you’ll finish 4th below us and Southampton, so to finish below you on that basis would mean 5th. I think we’ll be behind Southampton, they’re on fire.

Ipswich are 16th in the current form table, 7 points from 6 games and scoring only 5 goals. Repeat that over the next 7 games and you’ll probably be sitting 3rd to 4th.

Last 6 you’ve had 4 home games, next 6 you’ve got 4 away games, you’ll need to improve on goals scored.

You’ll also need big results against Leicester and WBA

Your stats are based on being 6th, forget that, 3rd or 6th is all the same, I agree you’ll make the play offs no matter what.

As for little old Ipswich, I don’t see you as little mainly because my first ever Leeds game was away at your ground in 81 (we lost 2-1) I was behind the goal in the Ipswich end when I believe you had the likes of Mariner, Butcher, Osman and Wark and you were the EUFA cup holders. To be honest, as a teenager then, I was looked after, my mates dad who took me, very few would mess with him and everyone behind the goal seemed to know him. The Leeds fans on that day, let’s say as an impressionable teenager I was disappointed in their behaviour.

I only really came in to rattle Spanish as he was enjoying himself on our forum a few weeks back. On your Sunderland match day thread @Southcoastoldgaffer asked politely for me to leave you in peace, I liked the post and obliged.

I’m back as I was tagged for a reply, if you don’t like Leeds fans coming in here and giving it a bit, then you’ll need to ask Spanish to not stir the nest. For the record, we never mind opposition supporters coming over on the wind up, we actually have a laugh with quite a few of them.

I’ve no beef with Ipswich, I don’t hate them, I don’t mind their fans, we all have good and bad followers. My old work mate is an Ipswich fan, my old school mates dad took me to my first game.

Back to Transfer talk. A couple of strikers that appear to (possibly) be closer to top of our list..

    Sam Gallagher of Blackburn
apparently we’ve had 2 bids rejected but I think they’re looking to sell. He’s reportedly on 25kpw but deals ends this summer (they have an option, but at that wage they can’t afford to)
He’s spent last 6 seasons in the championship and never got to double figures and if I remember correctly we were linked with him before he went to Blackburn..

    Michael Obafemi of Burnley
Loan option only as he’s on a long contract having signed in the summer. Scored a few for Swansea a couple of years back to earn his move to Burnley but hardly featured this season. Burnley just signed another Striker so could mean they’re now willing to let Obafemi leave

Michael Obafemi striker ? he has hardly set the world on fire. 15 goals in 51 appearances for Swansea over 2 seasons.
Sam Gallagher possibly even worse ? 45 goals in 214 appearances for Blackburn.

Watford's Mileta Rajovic being mentioned as well.

Hirst’s record before joining on loan wasn’t anything to set the pulses racing.
Some would argue that he hasn’t been that prolific with us either… the role of striker in this system doesn’t need to shoulder the burden of being the main goal scorer.. but yeah, neither of those are exactly box office.

Looking at Obafemi he’s 5ft 7 which I would suggest is a barrier given the physicality Hirst has

Not having a dig Scowey, just a bit underwhelmed.

Unfortunately I am of an age where I watched a certain Eric Gates who wasn't the tallest of strikers.

Sam Gallagher, yes, as he's in the similar mould to Hirst, but not sure Obafemi will fit in to our system...we already have 5 Diddy men upfront in chappers, broadhead, burns, hutch and Sarmiemto..need a.big physical presence now

    These aren’t my suggestions <laugh>

    I’m just posting what I’ve heard/read..

If I was scouting for the club they probably wouldn’t be close to the top of the list, but probably not many of our signings would have been.. Though McKenna and Co have done an amazing job so far and have plenty of credit in the bank to be given our trust
