Do you guys remember when I did a Swansea matchday thread? Feels like only yesterday! A Swan Sea is a big Swan Lake. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky created the ballet Swan Lake in the late 19th Century. A bit like Russell Martin’s time at St Mary’s, Swan Lake initially bombed, but went on to be a huge success. The ugly duckling, as we know, turned out to be a swan. My paternal family comes from the valleys around Swansea, and there are plenty of ugly ducks there. And a lot of sheep. There are nearly 4 sheep to every person in Wales. If you want to make an offensive joke about welsh people and sheep, I can probably get you a Netflix special with Ricky Gervais. Believe it or not, Ricky Gervais and Karl Pilkington have a Youtube video teaching Welsh speakers English. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/GSNpNdFwkAQ?si=oa7Ybnnf0PWfrT5I The Welsh were conquered by Edward I. He was 6’2”! This got him the nickname “Longshanks”. I’ve had a few long shanks in my time, but then I am getting old. 1-3 Away win. We will be too good for them!
****. Once again we will have a divided household. A draw will mean a truce while a win for Saints will mean I have to cook my own supper for a few weeks.
Won't be as easy as the home game. They've got a manager now for a start. They're unbeaten since then, picking up a win against West Brom and draws away at Cov and Brum, so it would seem they're on a new manager bounce. Expecting a cagey first half but hopefully our quality will shine through and we can nick it.
Win this and Ipswich have two days to stew on it before they play Leicester on Sky on Monday night. Up the Saints.
It seems we keep encountering teams just as they either hit form or get a new manager in! Not stopped us so far so more of the same please!
They'll be well up for this to try and 'avenge' the 5-0 thrashing from a few weeks back. Giving me the season we got thrashed by Leicester and then beat them in the reverse vibes. We will need to be professional in this, it will likely be a much more competitive game and a narrow result either way, but hopefully our superior quality will see us through with a win.
Listening to the TSP I think the Swansea guy said that they have returned to trying to play the RM way but aren’t yet up to speed with it. If so this could give us a chance to exploit through pressing their defenders. He also said that they play with wingbacks so potential space for us.
Hopefully. The more I think about this weekend the more I feel we are in a win/win situation. IF we lose only one of the two teams above us can move 3 points away from us, or both can move one point away with a draw. If we win we close the gap on the loser of the Ipswich v Leicester game by 3 points, or if they draw we close the gap on both by 2 points. It’s like we have a free hit.
Funny that, I was mulling over that same point earlier with a fellow supporter. However as in all competitions, deal with your results and that's all you can do. Which means, we need to win this, and let the fun begin!!
I've never been one to say "I expect to win this one", I'm more of a "hope we can" type. But after such a successful run, I think we should be able to approach this with a reasonable amount of confidence. It's hard to break the "yeah, but this is Saints" mindset but I don't think it would be arrogant to see nearly every game at the moment as a decent opportunity for points. Swansea 1-0 Saints.
I’m in town Saturday and looking for a pub that will show the game So far I’ve found Alex doesn’t have screens any more London Brewhouse only show Prem Can’t contact Osbourne Shirley, is it still open? Can anyone help?
