I would observe, for anyone kacking their pants on here on a Saturday, that this is an incredibly even and open division where anyone can beat anyone (well maybe not Rotherham). Despite our undoubtedly poor run recently, we remain a point off the top six. There’s no need for losing the faith just yet, nowhere near.

Yeah, not having at a go at you specifically, Ernie. It’s just the more I’ve thought about those types of jibes over the years from the perspective of a History graduate, it just made me uncomfortable. Britain’s an island nation so didn’t have to deal with a mechanised infantry of hundreds of thousands of troops using revolutionary tactics that could occupy major nation states in a matter of weeks, days or even hours. But we did get bombed to **** still by the Luftwaffe. Idk, the jokes about the Dutch and French or whoever etc. being cowards during WWII rubs the wrong way in the same way it did when some posh twat at uni joked that destroying Hull was the only good thing Hitler ever did.

The French were pivotal during the evacuation at Dunkirk by protecting the retreat, for example. If anyone from Europe mocked the British troops at Dunkirk for being cowards, I’m sure most would be rubbed the wrong way about it.

It’s laughable really. He did that role for the 2nd best side in the division last season and scored 2 goals all season

So you'd play an already decimated first team squad on Tuesday (even potentially playing 30 minutes extra time) and then have them do the same again on Friday (depending on what injuries would be picked up on the Tuesday).... go figure...

Try to win every game. We’re in a rut and on a losing streak. We need a nice confidence boosting win.

I say, play a strong squad on Tuesday.

I don't think I said that, I said "by your logic"...

I happen to agree, and agree with Amin, that winning breeds confidence.

**** loads last night apparently. Rosenior specifically quoted that figure in his interview. 230-odd I think it was.

They're not all sitters, but the chances other teams score against us aren't either. Wednesday scored 3 beauties from half chances. Rowe scored a half chance from the edge of the box. Months ago now but Ipswich in that 3-0 created less big chances than us but scored three beauties from half chances. We have good quality attackers for this division so we shouldn't be repeatedly being out-finished in this way. At times in isolation it seems unlucky, like last night, but over a period of time it's clear we're seriously lacking in chance conversion compared to the teams we play.

I think it’s a system issue though. What else would it be? Like you say we have good enough forwards in the side for this not to be an issue, but it’s shown no signs of getting better, worse if anything. Yeah we have injuries but that just further shows the issue in the system that we look like we could’ve played 90 minutes 3 times yesterday and not outscored Norwich.

Ipswich were 3 stunners but the player had miles more time to pick a spot because of the speed at which they play through us. Our attackers are often making their final action surrounded or well defended because we play forward so slowly.

It seems to me we just too slow with our build up most of the time, if an opposing team has been in your box, then to slowly play out from the back allows the opposing team to get back in shape behind the ball. Often by the time we get to their box it is very congested, you have to move the ball quicker, so attackers have more room and fewer defenders to deal with.

I know we try to get teams to press us and thereby create space behind, but you have to vary it. The ball over the top has been affective for us, but with De Lap missing and Connolly getting pole-axed did stop that option, as Sharp is not that type of player the other night, which was a big loss for us and probably did affect us more than we realised.

Having said all that, I think with Jaden back, Carvalho up to speed and a better right-winger, which will give us width, we will see an up turn in results, even though without De Lap who is a very big miss for us.

Looking at Friday's line-up, who have we signed that was big money? Take out loans and that team cost less than most championship sides. The problem has been injuries and some very poor signings that just are not up to this league.

    You are totally right.

France was/is mocked by the British, Americans and (most pertinently) by the Germans for collapsing so easily (6 weeks?) And then willingly forming Vichy France with so many Frenchmen becoming Nazis, after so much strong talk. The mocking is due to the threats of promised resistance on the world stage before the invasion. They were a world power at the time with a seat on the League of Nations - the Netherlands and Denmark clearly had no chance.

Probably another situation of an unfair reputation is the Italians received for cowardice after their reluctance to fight in WW2 - a war that Mussolini really only got involved in as a favour to his political friend in Germany. Italians showed extreme courage and bravery in WW1, ultimately causing the collapse of the Hapsburg empire.

The French were certainly not cowards. Their planning and reaction to the German blitzkrieg was slow unfortunately but like our troops the common soldier dug in where possibly but again like our troops could not stop the most tactical army in the world at the time. Respect to those who did their best.

History and it's outcomes indicates that politically they were cowards regarding the Battle of France. Their leaders had promised resistance at every stage upon invasion. This clearly didn't happen. Plans had been made nationally and locally to appease German occupation. Papers show that the German leadership and even the humble German soldier found it amazing and hilarious how easy the invasion was. German newspapers at the time mocked the ease and almost immediate support of the invasion.

This reputation clearly doesn't apply to the individual soldier though.

Parts of Holland joined/formed Nazi party's so it's hardly surprising they were 'labelled' ,but weren't Denmark neutral in WWII?

I wouldn't call all French people cowards or 'surrender monkey's but their government declared war the same day as we did and capitulated not long after(despite numerous calls/pleas to stay the course). They of course did build pockets of resistance and rogue army's,brave people, but the vast majority of the Country and the troops within, laid down their arms at the first sign of the Germans.

One of only four teams to beat Leicester, drew with Leeds, lost last minute to Southampton, drew with Coventry. Is really poor the right way to describe it?
