If we’re in need of a chance-creating winger, we could try this Ryan Longman guy at Millwall. Oh, hang on …
Hindsight, it was a mistake to let him go out. We were kind of expecting Sinik to make a comeback and definitely expected Ally and Vaughan would be in front of him. I actually think we are playing a perfect style of football for Longman to flourish this season as it turns out. I think he’d maybe have had a decent time of it.
He would at least have been a decent stand in while others are out, giving us some width and helping full backs out.
Some people have short term memories. Lokilo may very well have been putting in high crosses to the giants of norwich but Longmans crosses usually ended up in the stands.
Not for me (hindsight). I always rated him. Hard worker, with a good shot on him, but he thrived more under McCann. Presumably Rosie never rated him at Brighton either.
Longman went backwards once he'd signed permanent, sadly, as I think there is a player in there but perhaps the constant switching of his positions fkd him up. And sorry, but some of these requests to get ball playing hard men for our defence are a little like writing a list for Santa and adding you want a Ferrari. Just how much money do you think we can spend on such and still stay within FFP. I'm sure they'd love to splash the cash, on defenders, midfielders, wingers, 20+ goals a season strikers, but we have to be realistic and operate within the budgets we're allowed. Also talk of getting rid of this player, that player, you have to have people willing and interested in the player to get rid first ! Dose of realism needs to be injected gents.
Agree. BUT plenty of players have come in over the past couple of years yet we remain so unbalanced and so short of certain types
I think the issue with this actually comes down to how quickly Rosenior is progressing the side. When Acun came in we were happy signing a player like Longman on a permanent deal as that was the level of player we were looking at and who could walk into our team. But the fact we've gone from fighting relegation, to aiming for top 10, to this January a clear shift to aiming squarely for top 6 has seen our targets change/upgrade almost window on window. It gives the impression we're bad at recruitment when the reality is that we're revising our targets each window.
It's always funny how players who aren't here or aren't playing become highly rated again because we're not seeing them play. Longman was an absolute favourite target for criticism last season. Now that he's not here and we lack good wingers, people are being generous to him. It's always the way.
Not from me he wasn’t, he didn’t have the best time last season but he’s a good player. I’d have him here over Twine, as he’s our player and Twine isn’t. There’s very, very little between them.
