Yes, it's having the effect it was designed for, protecting the traditional "big" clubs. Raising the drawbridge so no one can compete with them.
Fair point but I think they’ll eventually fck off to a super league and we’ll all be left with something akin to a proper setup to compete. That’s my hope but probably clutching at straws
I know people think that's ideal but there'll be no money for the rest, it will become like the smaller leagues quality wise.
I’d have no problem with pl being of similar quality to championship. Get rid of half of the foreigners playing purely for the cash while knowing or caring nothing of the history of a club. Our rats from last season being a perfect example. Heck maybe we’d be able to keep Finley Gorman on our books then or even keep Archie Gray long term
Agree with Eire and LoL but the force of FFFP is only just started to work and Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea have already made sure they will be untouchable because the FA, Prem and EUFA were toothless in the past. Chelsea are still reeling from Abramovitch and loads and loads of dish is still sitting in an account supposed to be handed over to Ukrainian interests, but not happening. The new owner hid loads of money and players from FFFP by buying a French club and loaning players from Chelsea and players he wanted at Chelsea signed instead for his French club. Man City are so far ahead on player quality now that every season they make a profit on player trading, which means new players come into the club free in simplistic terms. They only paid £60m for Haaland and sold Jesus for £75m so got Haaland and £15m for free. City et Al have been dipping in the fiddle font for years and got away with it. They are not and have not fiddled for a few seasons, but that is why nobody can compete these days. They made a player profit of £65m last season, £62m the season before
Just a thought, what is to stop Newcastle selling one of their players to the Saudi Pro League for £ 500 million? That would help them with FFP, especially if it was a player that isn’t very good. I know that sounds a bit corrupt and am sure they are straight as a dye but …
Problem is, teams in the Super League would still want the best players so can’t see how it would help us keep ours??
Cresswell would be all profit, Meslier would be massive profit, Gnonto would be massive profit, Joffy massive profit, Bate profit, Hjelde big profit which all goes well for FFFP, Adams was even a profit….. potential problems with some of the rats next season however they were all off the wage bill and a year less in their contract and as contracts are amortised it’s not that bad
I think this is where the Leicester model works brilliantly the problem is that we can sell these players for massive profits but we need to replace them with players who are just as good or better for cheaper. Where do you find these players cos heaven forbid you bring them in for the leagues that aren't in Western Europe.
Not sure there is as much profit in the sales, you suggest Doc. I doubt we’d get much more than £10m for either Gnonto or Meslier, in the current climate. Few clubs are able to spend big, so reckon we’d struggle to move them on for big money. So yes a few quid profit on both. The others you mentioned would likely not make £10m, between them. Just think you over value our youngster’s worth. Btw, I really do hope you’re correct, but just don’t see it happening. MOT
The profit on Gnonto will be double, maybe treble and could be quadruple of what we paid for him. Meslier will be at least double so in both cases significant for the P&L account that is FFFP. Cresswell is sheep refit and the same for most we brought into the academy. Numbers in a spreadsheet that cheer up the auditors. Yeah I know not football but the crap clubs have to live with mate
Reckon we’ll do well to break even on those you mentioned, when the financial fallout arrives from the loanees next summer. Again hope I’m wrong.
