(The scene of many a Leeds teams demise)

OK # disclaimer - this match thread is being written under the affluence of incerhol following attendance at a celebration of life event for a friend who sadly passed away very unexpectedly just before Christmas, so if it isn't quite up to scratch then just like an iffy football manager, I'm getting my excuses in early!!!

So, back to the bread and butter of the Championship then after we cunningly instigated our exit from the F.A Cup as early as possible to avoid any distractions from our promotion push.

This weekend sees the visit of one of our decently sized divisional rivals Leeds Utd (they are not quite as big as some others in the division but don't say that to their fans as they get a bit tetchy about that kind of thing).

We do of course have an excellent record against our illustrious opponents and once again earlier this season it took a very late goal to rescue the Yorkshire 'giants' from being humbled by us meagre South Wales minnows. In fact, I'd imagine being a 'Peacocks' fan you;d most likely start to get a bit of shiver when it comes to playing the Bluebirds because since the turn of the millennium they have manges just 4 victories in 26 games against us, and that includes cup matches when they were the supposed superior team (we've had 15 in that time by comparison)!

In fairness to them though, they do seem to have got their act together and are doing pretty well this season. Currently sitting in 4th spot they are actually making a decent fist of trying to get back up at the 1st attempt this time around as opposed to going in the opposite direction to League 1 as per previous adventures.
I do anticipate a tough game this time around what with our beloved Bluebirds being in rather mixed form, but of there's a crumb of comfort here, it's that they too have the same points tally over the last 6 matches - could the curse of Cardiff once again strike upon our esteemed visitors???

    Leeds Form Guide.jpg

    Past Meetings
As mentioned, our record against the 'mighty' Leeds is pretty formidable and the last season they were with is in the championship was no exception. Nice to see Bamford doing a great job in defence for us.

A Russell Slade inspired masterclass of a victory from 2014 here.

How much did Junior Hoilett enjoy playing Leeds???

And of course, just because it never gets old 9and maybe because our cup runneth out already this season)...

To be honest, I could be here all evening pulling out highlights of wins, so lest just hope this weekend adds another to that list!

    Bulut's Bulletin
OK, good news, Karlan Grant is likely to be fit, so could be in contention for at least a place on the bench. Bad news, O'Dowda has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury and will now apparently be out for a further 6 weeks or so, however, Rambo continues to make good progress it seems.
The squad however is looking a little thinner this weekend with Goal machine Ike Ugbo recalled by Toyes and promptly loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday and possibly even Jonathan Panzo has departed if rumours are true. To be fair, neither will be greatly missed having not really featured much in recent weeks but it does mean we are more reliant on youngsters and fringe players we are looking to offload in the short term.

Of the game this weekend our returning gaffer said "Of course, it will be a tough game against Leeds. We know about their quality. But, of course, we will not hide on Saturday. We will try to give our best on Saturday on the field to get points.
"The first game in Leeds was a good game for us. We had a good start over there, we could have won. We lost two points in the 96th minute, this is football. Saturday will be a different game.
"Now, the teams know each other a little bit better, what they are playing offensively, what they are doing defensively. I hope that we can manage it well, to have a win or at least a point, where we can show that we will do everything to take points here.
"These kind of games for players are always good. Players in big games, they give more percent to show themselves on the field, to have the win, to try to win that game, because it is a special game. They are always good to have a win."

What Are The Odds On That?
In honour of our prodigal son Clingo returning to the fold, both VT and Erol have decided that FIFA Player of the Year 2024 Perry Ng should continue with his part time duties of providing us with the odds for this one.... over to you Pez.

    Leeds Odds On That.jpg

    Well I Never
Did you know that Leeds was the the first urban area to have a motorway.
The A58 now functions as a part of the Leeds Inner Ring Road (near the University of Leeds), but back when it was first opened in 1964 the road came under dispute for the number of homes and buildings which were sacrificed as a result.
Let's face it, even then folks were desperate to get out of there in a hurry!

Also the first film was shot in Leeds. A silent film made back in 1888, Roundhay Garden Scene was shot by Louis Le Prince. He was a French inventor and his recording is believed to be the first-ever made for the big screen.

Silent film??? They ought to pop to Elland Road when Leeds are losing to supposedly inferior opposition, THEN you know how silence sounds!

Lastly, it's been scientifically proven that travelling from Yorkshire to Cardiff inhibits muscular control, speed of thought and general eye-brain-body co-ordination...

Well, at least I assume it musty have been because lets face it, Leeds get battered by us more often than not!!

    Sharing The Love
Ok, just because it's getting late I will again succumb to a game of 'Guess Who' for this one. The below are all players to have worn both shirts, some with more success than others.

    Leeds Chandler.jpg
This midfielder played 25 times for the Bluebirds at the end of the 80's but had to retire due to a knee injury in 1990.

    Leeds Keogh.jpg
This striker had a loan spell during the 2010-11 season, popping up with a last minute winner v one of his future clubs whilst in the blue shirt.

    Leeds Peltier.jpg
Surely needs no clue? A bit of a stalwart for the Bluebirds and a Colin favourite!

    Leeds Drameh.jpg
Another loanee and boy what an impression he made.... named player of the season despite only joining in the January of 2022. Would still welcome him back with open arms.

So, will Leeds Farke it up again as they wilt in the Welsh capital cauldron? Can Erol strike peril into the hearts of our visiting foes?? And can mighty Meite make his mark now he relieved from the pressure of the future European golden boot winner Ike Ugbo breathing down his neck???

All I know is we need to start asking VT, "oh, where's the signings mush"?????? Not that we need them to see off the Yorkshire weeds of course!!

And on that note, a tune to get us in the mood for their visit!!! Blooooooooooooooooooooooooobirds!!!

P.S. Good to have Clingo back on a matchday!!

Bluebirds 9/2? Sparkey’s going to lose a of dosh tomorrow if he sticks a wad on at those odds.

Did I mention my brother is a massive Leeds fan? Mind you he was dropped on his head at a very young age.
    Anyway come on the Blooobirds!

Total genius Brizzle and even more impressive given your alcoholic circumstances. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Yes, Ng deserves the accolade plus a golden boot and glove.

Can't see us getting much from this encounter with Leeds thrusting upwards. If course it's a funny old game so you never know.

Let's get it clear though. If we get a penalty, there's only one man for the job.

    Good to be back.

You can’t use the words ‘thrusting upwards’ on this forum.
Don’t you know Masky reads this and it might get his tiny todge a little excited!

Top one was Jeff Chandler.... Recall watching him play a few times. Tidy enough from memory but certainly not a stand out player for us in his short time.

It was a term often used on the old 606 to similar effect. Sparkey will remember.
I've just merely aimed my rod at the pond for old times sake.

    HT two down.
Five attempts and none on target.
Leeds seven attempts and five on target.

Don't know how we fix this with what we have available.

Similar to the Leicester match, hopelessly outplayed again, not a lot of spunk in this Cardiff side. Ralls always off by 60 mins, but doesn’t need much excuse! :emoticon-0103-cool: Masky

BFB pal, if you receive this, can you tell BT not to worry about the other night, it happens, doesn’t mean he’s less of a man, ask Clingy! :emoticon-0103-cool: Masky

Missed penalty, hardly likely with 10 mins to go, but Masky predicted 0-2 , could be five points. Begs the question that if I was offered a 2-2 draw now for nil points…..would I take it? :emoticon-0103-cool: Masky
