Not just brainless which they most definitely are, but also corrupt and desperate to hold onto power. Which is exactly what the U.S. will use and exploit to serve their geopolitical aims. There are proxies everywhere in that region and the main issue is American and Israeli backed Sunni/arabs vs Iran backed Shia. That's the overaching battle here. What's also interesting is how this is now being battled out on a diplomatic level in Iraq which is being pulled in opposite directions by Iran and U.S. And Iraq is dependent on, and sympathetic to, both and trying to balance both opposing forces. Edit: and btw if they want to negotiate peace then why not let them. Why the need to promote more death and destruction.
Looks like the Houthis are desperate to join in the **** around and find out movement. Dust bowl loading…
Tbph I've got no sympathy with Yemen (Houthis), I apply the same rule to them as I do to us with Russia, if you poke the bear expect to get your head bitten off. Regardless their reasons, you can't go acting the bunch of pirates disrupting world shipping, that will have an economic impact on the world and not expect to get a rocket up your arse.
They don’t have a reason. Firing missiles at Japanese ships is unrelated to what Israel is doing in Gaza. I’m not the Yanks biggest fan but even the most anti-American folk must be able to see that they’ve taken the right course of action with this.
I was listening today regarding the logistics of attacking Yemen, one of our ships had to make a 3,000 mile round trip to get involved and our jet pilots were flying for eight hours, which is said to be a hard graft on their own with the need to maintain your level of concentration. All while I was nicely tucked up in my bed lol.
It's not directly related but it's obvious why they're doing it. It's soft targets they can hit and it's clearly to widen the conflict and that's what's happened. It isn't about being anti-American. I doubt very much this will solve anything, all it does is spread the war. The Houthis have been bombarded by US and UK missiles for a decade, they're used to it. This one strike won't do anything but embolden them, they'll carry out more attacks and we then have to bomb again and again. And it won't stop there, it will kick off somewhere else, probably inside some arab country and their rulers know this. Iran is pulling the strings and we're just falling into their hands.
They’re affecting world trade and putting innocent lives at risk firing missiles at these ships. They’ve been told to stop. They’ve been threatened and still carried on. Apart from taking direct action, what else could have been done? They couldn’t just be allowed to carry on. As you’ve implied they’ve done it for a reaction. So surely they’re to blame for this?
It's very simple and easy to go firing rockets at ships and for us to fire rockets at them. If it's just a blame game and we want to feel good that we've hit back then that's fine, but it doesn't solve anything. It will just make the situation worse. Were they firing at ships before the Gaza war? No. This was inevitable. If we carry on in the same vein what happens next is also inevitable. I've said all along there needs to be a ceasefire in Gaza and pressure applied on all parties involved to negotiate a settlement. There's no long term plan to any of this which can only be achieved politically. Most military and political analysts who know the region say the same.
Yes. https://georgetownsecuritystudiesre...-houthi-threat-to-the-strategic-waterway/amp/ https://acleddata.com/2024/01/05/qa-why-are-yemens-houthis-attacking-ships-in-the-red-sea/ They’ve not got the right to fire off missiles at innocent ships that have nothing to do with what’s happening in Gaza. They might try and make it about Israel and Palestine but it’s a very weak argument. There’s enough sources saying the Houthis are doing this to distract attention from their popularity plummeting in Yemen and this is a way to win back support.
All eyes should be on Taiwan right now. One party is giving it the ‘**** you’ to China and the other party is looking for closer ties to China. Voting started a couple hours ago. It would be best for everyone if the latter wins. I think they’re very slightly behind, though.
think the KMT (if they still call themselves that) have been in power since they fled there after losing the civil war .
The party that won this election have won it for the 3rd time in a row. Or the guy who won has. It’s a new record, apparently.
