Yes, I agree. I think for the budget he did well getting a car on the grid. From what I read it was only by him doing some good financial deals that the team was kept going through the pandemic. - i.e. their pay drivers.... That said it would be good if the new team principal managed to make them a bit more competitive.
Trackside engineering director Ayao Komatsu is stepping up to the role. I believe he has been a long term member of the Haas team and should bring the engieering experience that Gene Haas has stated he requires. I don`t think that a team principal necessarily needs to be an expert engineer,as this is the task of the engineering director, team principals are there to deligate tasks for every employee and generally steer the team forward in an orderly fashion. That`s my opinion of a TP, anyway.
Just read that Steiner will be live at the Autosport International Show on Saturday, January 13 as scheduled, but this one has just become must-see as Steiner will be there, armed with a live microphone as he speaks to Sky F1 commentator David Croft.
I was surprised to see several comments (in the media) praising this approach based on Andrea Sella's work in improving McLaren. I really don't see that a technical background is essential, but hopefully he can prove me wrong and give us a more competitive Haas.
BBC Saying Ocon to Haas . To be announced possibly before the Hungarian Grand Prix . From a personality POV , I would far rather have Kmag .
And something about Toyota in talks to become their engine manufacturer https://www.gpfans.com/en/f1-news/1...ed-as-new-ferrari-haas-partnership-announced/
The question in my mind is more - why not? He’s fast and reasonably experienced which they need with a rookie in the other seat. Yes he’s also a poor team player, but what’s the better option?
Having reflected a bit more on what they have or have not got, now - the other negative with Ocon is that he’s someone who you would say has a history of being poor in terms of driver feedback/car development. It’s not reasonable to expect they’ll get that from Bearman in the first couple of years, so that could be a problem - although the reg change in the middle of the first two should somewhat mitigate that.
