N’Dong - 14m Djilobodji - 8m McNair - 5m (fair enough) Love - 1.5m Gibson - 2.5m Oviedo - 2.5m Anichebe - free? Denayer - ? Lescott - ? He had the funds to improve a side that was on the up when Big Sam went and he completely dismantled it and ****ed everything up.
Put Kieffer Moore in this side and see the difference it makes. If not him then we need someone in the same mould.
N'Dong and Bodji were already on the radar when Sam was here, Moyes came in with no backroom team and said we were sticking with Sam's "Blue Print". Still ****e time here though.
No defending Moyes from me, and I'm related to him! He didn't do his homework on us before taking the job - he saw what Allardyce had done and assumed we were ready to take the next step up. He didn't realise the club for up for sale, or that the owner had turned off the money. He was shocked at a) the lack of quality in the squad (not the first manager to see the end of season uplift and assume wrongly) and b) the attitudes of the McKay signings. At the time there was a lack of direction in the club (Congerton saying we signed players who were "available and willing to come") so the signings were the typical scattergun approach. Ndong was 100% an Allardyce signing (or at least he'd identified him to the club) What was unforgiveable is that Moyes downed tools as soon as he realised he was on a hiding to nothing. He was desperate to get back to the PL after failures at Man Utd and Sociedad. The ****er should have done the honourable thing and resigned when he knew what state we were in. Instead he sat on his hands and took the money.
If he took one look at the club and resigned he would have getting pelters as well, his reputation would have been hit even worse. Also the majority of managers would wait for the sack/pay off. I certainly wouldnt resign.
He would make a difference obviously but we need more than just him. Our players aren’t as good as some make out and adding one big lump up top won’t turn us into challengers overnight. Players are being recalled left right and centre then sent to other/better clubs. Shows the importance of loans at this level and we’re not arsed by the looks of it. I said yesterday I’m reserving judgement until the end of the window but I don’t think we’ll offer to pay as much of a contribution of Moores wages as some of the other clubs around us and that’s what’ll decide where he goes.
I remember him getting interviewed on BBC Radio Newcastle United and asked "was the Sunderland Job everything that was advised in the brochure", "no but I have a job to do". As you have said, absolutely no defending him, however, the big money was already spent so, baring a few million here and there, what do you do when you're out of options? Go back to who you know, in his case, players from Everton. Like I said, not defending him, but it was an absolute balls up from both sides and the start of a dark period for the club. So when people want KLD out for a few signs, just remember where we were.
I’m enjoying this ‘Sunderland’s Winter Window 2017’ thread, does anyone know if there’s a 2024 equivalent?
We had no nothing at all though we were poor all over mate the striker was the least of our worries on Saturday. Midfielders needing 5 minutes of the ball, defenders lunging in at the first given opportunity and having the piss taken out of them, wingers not tracking their men. Don’t think he would’ve done much in that game it was poor from start to finish IMO but I do agree he’ll be good for us. Just getting him in won’t massively improve us
The fact we could have kicked it long and not have to fanny about at the back would have made a huge difference
Probably could’ve tried that but their 2 CB’s are also massive so no saying it would work. We could’ve set up 5 at the back too which would’ve helped but we didn’t. Just think it was poor all over tbh.
