Yeah, in both of my example cities, but also smaller places I’ve been in Italy especially like Lucca and Pisa I found that the really central tourist honeypots still opened late but that the more off the beaten track places that historically might have yielded some real gems were far more likely to be either shut completely or had closed for the evening. It’s only anecdotal obviously, but you might infer from that that the places that are still open late are actually pandering to tourists and their idea of what (in my case) Italy is meant to be like rather than to locals, but time will tell I guess.

oh yes, they laid off a lot of staff that were deemed unnecessary ie room service staff / waiters etc so defo more profitable assuming they are getting the market rate for the rooms
