No one believes that, which is why I’m pretty sure he didn’t say that. Also having actually been there he will know exactly what it was like in the neighbourhood he was staying. No doubt there’s lots of late places in several cities, but there certainly seems to be a reduction in late places and an increase in those closing pre midnight in my experience (of other big cities, not Bilbao…never been there although it sounds nice)
Three streets in Old Town will get major makeovers to help connect Hull's visitor attractions - Hull Live (hulldailymail.co.uk)
"Improvements will be made to Princes Dock Street, Humber Dock Street and High Street, between Blackfriargate and Liberty Lane, in order to help link the new Hull Maritime projects, along with other attractions."
Eh? I haven’t mentioned Hull at all, and no I don’t. My sole point is that in every city I have been to since Covid, including the 2 examples I used which are both significantly bigger continental cities than Bilbao - though I could also have included many cities in the UK including Hull, the pub / restaurant industry is nothing like it was in 2019.
Spain's 5th largest city? That would be Zaragoza then - see https://www.statista.com/statistics/275361/largest-cities-in-spain/ I believe Bilbao is the10th largest in Spain. As I think I mentioned we loved the city but it certainly isn't the place for late eating or drinking (at least it wasn't in May 2023). There was a suggestion that tourists were slow to return after the pandemic but the daytime tourist attractions such as the Guggenheim museum and the football club shop were absolutely packed with tourists. I'm sure there WAS a tradition of eating and drinking late in Spain and elsewhere. Maybe it will return, who knows? It didn't exist last May in Bilbao that's for sure! As for Hull - well despite all the relative poverty in the area I've never had any difficulty eating or drinking late in Hull. So yes, I am in a good position to compare both and can confirm that pubs and restaurants in Bilbao* did indeed shut down long before their counterparts in Hull. * Details correct in May 2023
Put it wrong, the Bilbao urban area is the fifth largest in Spain, Which restaurants are open late in Hull, where you can order at 10 pm or 11pm? Which could you take a family in? There was a tradition of eating late in Spain? Do you think they are shutting early in Barcelona, Madrid etc never mind Costa Brava etc? Benidorm is shut down before midnight?
Google always check on here first before they answer other requests They will be updating their Bilbao drinking culture pages as we speak
Agreed, it may not be but the places that are open in Paris and Rome are not all shutting down earlier.
Hull must be getting ready for a tourist boom, what with it being more vibrant and open later than all those dull continental cities.
Well if google checks on here and a load of continentals read this forum they will be heading here. They would also know that every team City play is ****, from a **** city, with a **** ground and **** fans and are going to get beat 3-0.
