Its wrong. How can a manager have control over a player who the owner thinks is worth more to the club?

6 points above the relegation zone with 20 games to go. They’ll be sound.

Aye, true mate, hadnt really thought it through <laugh>

Mind you a lot of players these days have all sorts on top of their wage. Media rights, sponsorships etc. Used to get a few extra quid for the win, now the extras are based on the added revenue they can bring.

I am the arch defender of coaches so am biased. I think a basic salary of a first teamer is out of synch with a head coach. The overall impact a head coach can have is potentially far greater than a single player in my opinion. Like you say though, reality and what should be arent the same

In the same breath I think a lot of background staff at clubs are seriously underpaid and undervalued. For example, a scout or data analyst could spot a player, the club sign the player for millions of pounds and then give him a wage which is more per week than the person who spotted them get in a year.

Pretty sure Fergie was the one to put a stop to that at Man Utd. He always earned more than the players. Makes sense, but he must be worth ****ing millions now

funny you say that I typed out the below yesterday but didn't post it.

I always remember Fergie telling a story along the lines of saying he had made the Man Utd chairman aware that he would never manage a player who made more a week than his he believedmuch what you say how can he manage a player on moreover as it gives them ybr impression they are more important.

Then Rooney got one of his many pay rises he seemed to have while there and that made him best paid at the club. Fergie rang the chairman who ever and said he wasn't happy how can he command respect for a player that the club has made clear they value more than him, chairman said he agreed but what could they do, fergie said you just agreed I should be on as much as him get it sorted!

Not many could get away with it like.

I wonder if that’s the “head coach” model. No such thing as a manager now really.
