Much has been written about female pundits and presenters in football and other sports and not all is complementary. This week however it has gone nuclear with our old friend Joey Barton basically trashing every one of them in his own succinct way.

Not content with that he has then blitzed Gary Neville, ITV, and any number of other woke critics and his twitter feed has been pure entertainment this week. I have to say I agree with his points regarding females in men's football being out of their depth but there are less abrasive ways of getting your points across.

This is an excellent post on twitter regarding Barton and I've also put a link to Barton's twitter account which is comedy gold...

Barton is a **** (admittedly, I didn't always think so), but what are 'woke critics'?

    What is 'woke'?

Barton to me is a vile individual and I wished that he had nothing to do with our club. Good luck to the females who make it in punditry or co-commentating. It doesn't bother me, the same as in watching cricket. The bad ones are rather jarring, but that goes for women and men ... Dion Dublin anyone? I'm glad Rebecca Welsh has done well in her two professional refereeing of men's games and I hope she goes on to be very successful.
During the World Cup they had a co-commentator, I think it was Emma Hayes the Chelsea coach? Mrs Nines said ' who is that woman? Her voice! And she doesn't shut up. '

I find co-commentator's one of the worse things in watching televised football, they pipe up constantly. The good old days of Brian Moore and John Motson commentating on their own etc were better. As for the pre and post match analysis I don't usually bother and sometimes I watch games with the sound turned down.

The greatest commentators in any sport always knew when to be quiet and just let the action do the talking. Both Brian Moore and Richie Benaud often said ' Less is More' when questioned about their commentating styles. All commentators today should take heed from the masters !

Whatever berk thought that all ex footballers make good commentators or pundits was very sadly mistaken. The same goes for thinking that all ex players make good managers !

I don’t care if a football presenter is man or woman, black or white, short or tall, fat or skinny, old or young…….. as long as they have football brain, are good at what they do and keep the viewing public well entertained.

Shouldn’t all jobs opportunities take this position?

Frankly, when there are so many ex pros with distinguished CVs I find it disgusting that Sky continued to employ him after that spitting incident.

Of all the pundits I've heard on Sky, BT sport , BBC and ITV, commentating on a game over the last 20 years, I have to say that the 1 game Stuart Broad did for Sky on a Forest Cup game was the best I've heard ! Succinct, to the point, no faffing, no bollox, and no endless stupidity about anything that had **** all to do with the game he was watching. There was no bias either, and being a Forest supporter that must've taken some doing . Shame he'll be on cricket matches from now on, as he showed the other mugs on the panel how to do it !

Man or woman, boy or girl, It is the lack of basic grammar that gets me most. This should make you fail a presenter’s job interview.
Then it is the use of the word transition.
How you can get permanently sacked for one comment but effectively let off when you are filmed gobbling on someone is appalling, especially when you are talentless and have always been talentless.
Surely gobbling on someone is less respectful.

Well, I certainly sleep more soundly knowing that heroes like Joey Barton and ‘Captain Benjamin’ aka ‘Benjamin de Rebel’ are protecting me from their own paranoia and inferiority complexes.

    Phew.

I don’t care as long as they’re good. If they’re rubbish (regardless or gender, colour etc) they should be called out. My mum who’s in her 80s can’t stand female commentators but says “you can’t say anything these days”

Yeah, what is it? It's not a term I would ever use. It only ever seems to be used by rancid right wing ****ers.

For a start. Rebecca Welch has done well in her games as a referee. She did well in our match.

    Commentators are the same.
Right at the start the women were poor, but these things take practice. Women are improving there is one on match of the day who just does the matches ( Commentator) who is great and definitely less is more in her delivery.

The female pundits are improving...and I hope they replace Carragher, Richards and Dublin...who might be men...but my punditry is better than theirs

It was invented by the self-flagelleting, take-the-knee crowd, the "Be Kind", no borders, brigade who cancel or death-troll anyone who questions it.

So, if you choose to, you can wear the badge with pride :emoticon-0100-smile
