Jones and Greaves is a top. 6 pairing.

    Let's sort out the sides.

Not sure who’s slagged greaves off, I don’t think he’s a top 6 cb. That isn’t slagging him off

Totally agree. Greaves is one of our top performers this season and he is getting better. He is a long way in front of macca at the moment. If he could add a goal or two more a season then he would be a massive asset

I think Greaves is poor - we definitely ship more goals when he plays in the centre - he doesn't command the box, he's not a leader, his heading is poor, his positional sense is poor, he doesn't cut out crosses. he doesn't win 50 50s, he's caught out of position when he joins the attack - on the positive side he's mainly stopped shirt pulling and doesn't give penalties away any more, he makes a positive contribution in the final third but generally not at corners and freekicks, you can count on one hand the times he wins a header and it leads to a goal - massively over rated - seems to get a free pass presumably because he's one of our own - sorry folks but not for me - we could have sold him to Boro for £5 million - I think we will live to regret that

I would say selling him for 5m would be the thing we regret. He's already a top performer for us and I think he has bags of potential. He is only 23 and his strong points just now are things that are hard to teach and difficult to develop in a player, the things he can improve are things that tend to happen for CBs naturally with experience so if he keeps going with the right attitude he has every chance of a good career in the prem imo.

Seems to be a pre made opinion on Greaves about what he does in games. He’s improved 10 fold this season at centre back, looking more dominant in the air, and is providing us with the Maguire type runs out the back line. A lot of you seem to be struggling to budge from your opinions of him which were fair in his first 2 seasons at this level which are no longer.

I’ve seen it mentioned on here a few times questioning whether Rosie can improve players he has at his disposal, but for me Greaves, Jones and Coyle have come on leaps and bounds since his arrival

Isn’t our defensive record really poor?

    Bang average.
We're currently equal 12th on goals conceded.
Conceding has become as much of an issue as scoring, if not arguably more as we are currently 8th on goals scored.
Whether better full backs (rather than CB's) will sort our issues remains to be seen; hopefully very soon. FB's are of course a clear issue for us, but I'm not convinced it's as simple as that.

Still don’t think Coyle is good enough for where we want to be, and I’d say most of our defensive problems come from full back and lack of protection from midfield

Coyles been having a great season. When you look at him as an individual player I agree he seems limited but he certainly does not feel like a weak link in the team. Not when he’s playing at right back anyway.

He really benefits from having a proper wide player in front of him though then there is much less onus on him to push so far up, he’s not so good attacking in those tighter spaces but arriving late onto a free ball he can deliver an absolute peach of a ball into the box.

Just to add to that ^

I think Coyles solid form is a large reason Christie seems so **** this season. The bar has been set much higher than when he was in the team last season.

I think Coyle has improved massively BUT Wednesday put him under pressure time after time with 2 around him and he could neither pass out of trouble nor play out of trouble , therein lies the problem . He stops people and he attacks fairly well but if the oppo have him figured it’s an issue for us . For technically better players it wouldn’t be so we need Coyle plus some .

i can’t agree with this, Christie was an absolute baller before his injury, popping up with goals and skills. He’s now like a dog who needs taking to the farm bless him.

Yeah he was great what I meant was the competition to be in the team wasn’t as high and he’d have had more opportunity to find his feet.

If Christie could find last seasons form it would be hard to argue him not being in the team. He was unplayable and probably would have got into just about every side in the division.
