Isn't it great though that we're debating who should play no' 9. Rutter Piroe Bamford All really different players who bring something totally different to the role. Imagine if we were to sign an out and out no' 10 to give Farke a proper headache and for those that say we need more defenders plus a better goalkeeper well the goals conceded say different. What's definitely required in the second half of the season is to score more goals away from home as the four 1-0 defeats plus the goalless draw at Hull clearly prove.
The other thing is whoever plays the 9 & 10 roles we need width and pace on both sides otherwise we're running into low blocks all the time. Dan James was superb down the right today with Firpo doing the same on the left and the extra width that Junior brings was really needed today because Summerville tends to tuck inside and look for pockets of space.
Has anyone mentioned yet that Firpo was outstanding today ? Of course the guy has faults but he's a very good attacking full back as his 2 assists today showed and just for context how many assists have our other full backs had this season as can't remember many off the top of my head ?
Get that Doc but Farke wanted to play with a false nine and also this allowed Rutter more freedom and less responsibily. Also as he said after today's match the coaching staff have had to put some serious tactical work into Georginio this week to enable them to alter his position. Let's see how we line up at Cardiff in a couple of weeks as it will be very interesting. The other thing is and I know you've been saying for some time that Farke should rotate his squad more but firstly Firpo wasn't fit and Bamford you feel has needed quite a few months training to get anywhere near ready to start a match.
You know my thoughts on Firpo but yeah, today he was fantastic going forward. Probably his best game for Leeds alongside his effort against Accrington in the cup last season. Even yesterday he was a liability when defending. I'm not sure we have a left sided centre back with enough pace to cover his defensive shortcomings. Look at his awareness for Birminghams chance at the start of the 2nd half. He might be okay to play a few home games but he'll cost us goals if we are under any kind of pressure.
This footage, a prime example of why we have the best attacking line up in the division. When you think yesterday we had Anthony and Piroe on the bench, they’d walk into most teams in this division
All teams concede that’s a given and usually someone is at fault when it happens so Firpo should be no more of a defensive liability than most of the others. It's our five goalless away performances which is the issue.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67858866 Wayne Rooney: Birmingham City sack manager after just 15 games in charge
Cooper got put on a five year contract last season if I remember correctly, so will be sitting on that until a prem job comes up. Possibly Palace at the end of the season when Hodgson leaves. Anyway, is his CV that much better than Farke’s?
Lot of talk of him waiting for a job in the PL, no idea where people think he's done enough to warrant that credit. He kept Forest up yes but with the 6th biggest spend in the division that season and the 10th the start of this, his football isn't pleasing on the eye either.
