I'm a big fan of the onion too mate. But there's a difference between say. People debating him on here compared to knackers booing him when he comes on to play .
Ba has been poor lately, O’nien is sh*t in general in my opinion. BUT I’d never boo O’nien. I’d still give him my full backing as a Sunderland player even though I think he’s hopeless. What use would boo’ing him do? Well done you’ve dented your own players confidence and potentially made him worse.
You said you thought I was "disgraceful" a couple of posts ago...that's quite emotive language for "a daft little chat forum".
I trust my eyes and the stats and both of them suggest Roberts is badly underperforming what he is capable of.
I'd advise you to go and look at the stats which show O'Nien is a good defender because you're talking nonsense as usual. Second best rated player today for example. Agreed that booing players does nothing but harm. I'd leave Ba out of the team for now because he's going through a bad patch and judging by what he did on the pitch today he's best off having a little break.
Still absolutely buzzing for Rusyn. Even if you take the goal away he still performed very well and offered a great threat throughout. For me he has to start every game, his movement is top quality and he creates so much space for players like Pritchard to weave their magic. We don't need a new striker, we just need to play them and create for them.
Player ratings mean nout as we’ve already mentioned numerous times. Dan Neil was rated a 6.5 at the end of the first half today and he was arguably the best player on the pitch at that point with Pritchard. I don’t care about passing stats - if that’s the case play Ekwah CB I’m sure he can pass a ball 10 yards all game without fail and it means we can fit Pritchard in. I know what I’m watching and that’s a very small CB, whose positional awareness is shocking, having to make everything a battle with whoever he’s marking because he can’t defend. We do very little defending in general so he gets away with sloppy defending most of the time because we have cover on the odd occasion teams go forward. I’m just not sure what you watch to think he’s good. Few decent footballers in my group of mates who’ve played at an alright level through both Sunderland and Newcastle academies and onto Hartlepool/Gateshead, one of the lads currently at Mansfield and every single one of us has the same opinion on one player and that’s O’nien. He’s a liability. I know you love him so you’ll always look at it through tinted glasses so it’s a pointless conversation but he’s just not a good footballer mate. He’s a utility man who does an average job in numerous positions which is great to have around the squad but not starting every week.
You cant slag off folk who think hes good mate as its all about opinions You dont rate him fair enough, others do fair enough 'Im not sure what you watch to think hes good' - think that's a bit harsh when hes only giving him his opinion A few games this season o9 has been shocking imo but there have been others were hes been very good Also not sure why we are slagging off o9 today, he was very good today so not sure why we are discussing whether he is a decent footballer or not The same argument about tinted glasses is the same with you as well. You don't rate him at all so will always say hes poor, like nacho really rates him so will always back him up Anyway, cracking win today lads - great to start the new yr with 3 points n be back in 6th. Lots of ups n downs this yr no doubt but hopefully a massive up when we beat the scum on sat
The irony is I don't even rate him that highly at CB I just take exception at him being described as useless and **** there because it's clearly not true. I'd stick up for any of our players in the same situation, it's not because he's a nice lad it's because it's incorrect. I've always said I see him either in midfield or as a utility player, in which case I suspect he'd leave. I just don't like any of our players being made unjustified scapegoats and copping the blame for things that aren't their fault.
I didn’t think “allowed” was the word, more ‘“just don’t bother coming back if that’s the way you ‘support’ the club. You’re not welcome”. Not in my book anyhow
Trying to work out what you base this opinion on. As I say, i like Ba, but he’s produced less than Roberts on the field this season, particularly lately. Has ability, woefully short of form and confidence. Today you say Clarke did the same as Ba, remember that Ba played 10 and made more mistakes in 10 minutes than Clarke in. 90. I disagree with the booing, but saying “Clarke gave the ball away as much” is ridiculous. Probably true, but Ba only gave the ball away (except once I think) and Clarke set up a goal
I get that mate but people who rate him call out when he makes a single interception or tackle but refuse to acknowledge the previous few minutes where he’s been dragged all over the place or left a gap in the defence. One thing I try my best to not do is look through tinted glasses. People have sat here and made out players are better or worse than they are by a mile and i always try to look with an unbiased view because if our players were as good as our fans made out we’d be top of the league. But he’s just awful he’s the one player I watch and think he’s our weak link every game. Surely nobody is thinking anyone else? I’ve admitted that I was in the wrong with other players previously so it’s not as if I have my own agenda/opinion that I’m set on I just genuinely don’t see how anyone watches him and thinks he’s a good player. Rightly said though 3 points on the board and an important clean sheet. That’s 2 under Beale already and only 1 goal conceded in 3 games after the Coventry horror show. I’ve said all season when you can’t win you make sure you draw and we done that at Rotherham regardless of whether people think it was a poor result it’s still a point away and keeps up momentum.
Thoughts after lots of sleep and before the grind of work starts. Solid display, second half was very controlled and understandably energy levels dipped after a stupidly hectic schedule. I did hear a few boos / murmurs from around the ground when Ba came on, which was very disappointing. Pemeble looked way off the pace, but to be expected and we need to remember how long he has been out for. All in all it was very positive and a great end to the Christmas schedule. Beale and the coaches have all week now to get across their ideas ready for that lot
The idea that some people view player X with bias because they have opinion A, but you view player X without bias because you hold opinion B is not a sound thought process. I'll leave that with whomever is relevant to have a good think about it.
