    Bit cold for chilled drinks.
Been out breaking the ice on water troughs for the animals.

Had to jab a sheep as well. Looks like it's got pneumonia. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Happy to say that a week on, having been jabbed by me a few more times, the tup lamb looks to have recovered from his pneumonia. His breathing is much better and he's eating his rations.

But when will he "get" his rations?

Improvisation was the order of the day today.
We've lost the pins to hold the sheep hurdles on the side to the trailer.
Got four one metre lengths of 8mm steel to make replacements.
Haven't got a vice or clamps of any size to hold the steel while I bend the top 3 inches of the steel to 90 degrees to stop the pins just sliding through the brackets.
After a bit of rummaging, found a left over piece of 500mm long, 100 mm wide 10mm thick steel plate left over from some other job.
The tractor bucket is pretty robust with a clean edge on the top.

So, steel bar on top of bucket, steel plate on top of bar.
Drove the tractor so the headstock was over the plate and dropped it down. Didn't put too much pressure on, probably half a tonne.

Out with the sledge hammer, a few taps and the first one done.
    Rinse and repeat.
4 pins that look better than the originals.
Just need the ok from the boss.
Not Mrs Remote, but our daughter.
I'm sure she'll find some fault.

Been blowing a hooley up here.

A couple loose ridge sheets on one of the stables and a small tree has come down in one of our fields.

Stopped at my club trout fishing water on the way past. One of the boats had come loose at the front, so secured that.

One of the boats has sunk. Will take a bit to get it out once the weather settles.

Just finished reading The Compleat Angler.
    Subtitled The Contemplative Man's Recreation.
I've never thought of myself as 'contemplative'.
    Something to think about.:emoticon-0114-dull:

Written by Izaac Walton, with its first edition in 1653.
It was added to some years later by Charles Cotton.

The edition I have was gifted to me by a friend a couple weeks ago. It was published in 1936.
I committed to reading it by the end of the year. 2.75 hours to spare.

One day out next year will be to visit Cotton's stone built fishing hut in Dovedale.

Getting a bit fraught down on the farm.
Ewes were supposed to be scanned last Friday. Long story short, they weren't. Rescheduled for Wednesday but sheep need moving for it to happen.
Been having issues with the quad. Too much for my mechanical skills so in for a service on Tuesday.

They say things come in 3s.......

Used the tractor yesterday evening without issue.
    Parked up, went home.
Jumped in this afternoon, turned the key, nothing.
Well, not quite nothing, the dashboard lit up.
Noticed it was saying it was in gear. Safety feature. It won't start in gear. Re-selected neutral on the shuttle (forward-neutral-reverse). Still showing it was in 1 high.
Floor out, at the top of the gearbox, all looks good, definitely in neutral, still saying in gear.

Onto The Farming Forum. It's a bit like this forum, just more useful. :emoticon-0114-dull:

Looked up threads on it before to fix stuff. Nothing relevant spotted.
Started a new thread. Within an hour, lots of input, including one guy who had a similar issue.
A few diagnostic things to try and proposed fixes, even a bodge to bypass the safety feature (just until I complete the proper fix).
    That's tomorrow morning sorted.

If I disappear for a while, no drama, I'll be 'talking' with my new mates.<cheers>

Mrs Remote is in decluttering mode.
She found quite a few gin bottles in the drinks cupboard with just a couple measures in each.
With the aim of helping her declutter, I'm emptying them for her.<cheers>
