It stems from some fans expecting an immediate return to the pl and can’t accept the idea that it might be a two or three year plan to build a squad capable of competing at a higher level. So the instant daft solution. Is sack the manager and a new lad will bring a miracle cure

That's probably the same reason why Farke gives Bamford game time mate, give him time and he may get a shot on target, or even score:emoticon-0105-wink:

Miracle cure happening at Leicester mate and will bounce straight back up. Iraola at Bournemouth another club dying but now mid table, Wolves doing the same mate. If as a club you underperform it’s the players or the manager and we saw his fav 11 beaten and then we saw his other 11 lose and the common denominator is tactics.

I am very hopeful that he can turn it around but if mid Jan he hasnt I think the hammer will fall

It's not about fans 'expecting' us to go back up at the first attempt. There is no God given right to promotion from this league. I think most fans are astute enough to understand the financial implications of not going up at the first attempt. It also inhibits the growth of the club regarding ground expansions, commercial revenues.

To put it bluntly, next season the parachute payments will halve and we will have to sell our better players to meet FFP requirements. If we don't then points deductions follow and league 1 beckons again. If we do sell off the crown jewels then replacements will be needed and then you are relying on recruitment being 80% successful to maintain another challenge next season. The average transfer success rate is 50% so 80% is not a given.

Hopefully that explains the traps for next season. It's rare for clubs to 'nail it' and go up the second season. Historically, the first season is the best chance. I'd say we recruited well last summer but yet we are falling further and further behind and when you see tactical failings on the pitch then frustration kicks in and questions are asked of the manager and rightly so.

If we look at season 3 down here then parachute payments stop. We've sold all our best players already and probably struggle to make a profit on the ones left. Either the 49ers go "**** it" and go all out for promotion and to hell with FFP like Bournemouth and Villa. However, for every Bournemouth and Villa there's a Portsmouth and Derby. The other option is 49ers stop investing as much, stadium still needs work, we drop out of promotion favourites to outsiders, attendances drop off again and the downward spiral begins.

In summary, wouldn't it be better to go for it this season whilst we are backed by optimistic owners, Premier league money and a solid squad more than capable of automatic promotion.

If we fail this season, it won't be the fans that Farke will be worried about, it will the 49ers who will want answers.

Do we really need to talk about the loan players we have scattered across Europe and how much money we gain from those if we go up. If we don't go up, they go out on loan again so no income.

It's a complete **** show if we don't go up for the next few years and the happy clapper who think Bielsas grow on trees and we can build on this squad over the next 3 or 4 years are deluded. We'll be finishing 15th in the Championship every year again before long if it doesn't work out.

Put us in a 4 team play off without Leicester and we have to have a decent chance of at least getting to the Wembley final and once there it's only 90 mins from promotion.

All this talk of failing is very premature.

Great Post Emu and a lot of fans get that and want to go up this season as they realise FFFP rules will probably stop us going up next season. We will also have many 49ers investors totally peed off as they were sold promotion and prem league cash, not their share price dropping further. I am hoping that the 49ers step in now and tell FARKE he will have cash but needs to use it and buy players to get us promoted. Remember the statement in the summer from Marathe who said they were ambitious and ambitious with salaries and transfers.

The parachute payments do indeed reduce in year 2 but not by 50% as you state.

Year 1 it's 55% (of PL money from broadcast rights)
    Year 2 it's 45%
    Year 3 it's 20%

So it's in year 3 that the income from parachute payments falls drastically.

    OK. Fair enough.

If we fail this season I don't think we'll have Anthony, Rodon, Spence, Ampadu, Summerville, Gnonto or Georginio next season.

Other possible exits would include Gray, Meslier, Struijk, Cresswell.

The other factor is we were insulated against the reduced income in Year 1 by not having to pay player bonuses after relegation. Ok there would be no bonuses to pay this season either but the hope is that the 49ers have spread the budget across 2 seasons rather than go with all our eggs in the one basket of achieving promotion this season.

Personally I suspect they have and we would be in a reasonable position to give it another shot. That said as you say there would be changes on the playing front so the squad could look very different, but hopefully in a good way.

Yeah wa have players who want to play at a higher level. And they will want out. Rutter, Meslier, Summerville, Gnonto, Spence and Rodon not wanting to stay, Ampadu has shown he is prem level…. Then what to do with all that cash tied up with the rats who end up on loan again…

That's where recruitment has to be right. Given our track record on recruitment its a tad concerning.

Can't entirely agree with this Doc,
Rutter, not sure he's prem ready yet
Meslier, most posters saying he's **** and needs moving on, so would he be missed
    Gnonto see Meslier
Spence, hasn't impressed me yet, on evidence so far not prem quality
Rodon, 26 and no prem takers , think we can sign him either way
Ampadu, contracted and will stay imo
