Glad that’s over. Sad to concede but in the last 10-15 minutes we were getting sloppy/complacent in possession. KWP got robbed, Charles stepped on the ball under pressure, Baz hit a clearance against an attacker and then the goal. If we were clinical we would have scored as many as we did against the Swans. Mara was superb when he came on, up front and tracking back. Hoping the results go for us later.
That's the effect of fatigue. This run of fixtures must be so draining on the lads playing 90 mins every time. Also, I'd feel dirty celebrating a clean sheet after their disallowed goal.
I don’t. It’s happened to us before and we were flagged offside twice in the first half from through balls that could have led to a goal chance. The lino was really poor and a definite contender for a free eye test.
I'm so chuffed with the amount of through balls we are attempting these days. Exactly what was missing from our game. And what a ball from THB for Che's goal.
Two positives from a scrappy result. 1. We didn’t sit back, trying to defend lead. 2. Mara has become much more effective as an outlet. Being able to hold up the ball and chasing back to defend.
Take him aside ASAP, and make him watch that 10 times with Russ outside the room! When Gavin comes out, 'so what did you recognise there Gavin? Any observations on the goalkeeper concerned?'
Quote from Baz The ball was passed back to me at speed. I was going to just hoof it clear. Out the corner of my eye I saw Rishi Sunak looking down. I remember him saying 'stop the boots' l just panicked.
To be honest I think the fans are a little to blame. We were chanting ‘we’re taking the piss’ and honestly I think the whole ground was complacent. However, how far we have come that we are even capable of complacency again!
So what was that at the end, arrogance, complacency or a mixture of both. I think the Armstrong > Stephens sub made things notably worse. Not necessarily because of Stephens himself but because of its impact on our set up. Will probably work as a good reminder for the players in the long run though. SEVENTEEN games unbeaten is utterly outrageous and another win, so another good day albeit one that sat on the nerves.
Just got back. We definitely deserved the win, should have won more comfortably but Plymouth defended really well. Charly was excellent - top goal and was a constant threat. No complaints with the performance at all really. Baz was careless but I guess after having very little to do all night simply a lapse in concentration. Atmosphere was superb - it's a genuine joy to go to St Mary's again.
