Good Morning. It's Friday 29th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

PSG held talks with ER board regarding Struijk

Leeds skipper Pascal Struijk could be off to the Parc des Princes, if media reports from Paris are to be believed.

Leeds have one of the most stubborn defences in the Championship this season, with much of their success coming from the centre back pairing of Struijk and Rodon. On average, the Whites have conceded a goal a game over their 24 outings, nine less than Ipswich Town, and five less than Southampton. In fact, only Leicester City (17), and West Brom (23) have conceded less this term.

French Champions Paris Saint-Germain are keen to bolster their defence, given Presnel Kimpembe's recent injury woes, and see the young Dutchman as a long term replacement. According to media outlet L’Equipe, PSG chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi has already held talks with the Elland Road board about his availability, but may have to wait until the Summer to get their man.

Struijk is contracted to Leeds until the Summer of 2027, and have no intentions of letting him leave whilst they have a good chance of promotion. It has been rumoured that the European giants will temporarily switch their attention to Sao Paulo's Lucas Beraldo, but this is likely to be just a stop gap.

Farke defends decision to opt for Joseph over Bamford

Daniel Farke has defended his decision to opt for Mateo Joseph over Patrick Bamford during the 2-1 defeat at Deepdale, on Boxing Day

The 20yo was one of three substitutions made in the 68th minute, in an attempt to reverse a one - nil deficit. The changes led to an equaliser fifteen minutes later, but a last minute winner from the hosts would spoil Leeds Christmas party.

Farke has been impressed with Joseph's work rate, something sadly missing from Patrick Bamford, who shows all the mobility of a sloth. Just like Cooper and Ayling, Farke has shown little sentiment towards the old guard, slowly reducing their game time, to be replaced by younger, fitter models will less miles on the clock. In truth, its a decision that should have been made at least a season ago.

“There are no gifts and no coincidences,” “I got the feeling, when we were in underload and wanted to play with two strikers, I wanted to go for a striker who was capable of working a lot, running a lot.
This is what Mateo always offers because he has good endurance, a good physicality and he was involved in the penalty when he kept the ball and put the ball to Daniel James.

"He is able then, under pressure, to keep the ball. “He has shown this also in away games like at Blackburn [Rovers]. I like at the moment what he shows when I bring him in. His workload in the last game (Ipswich Town) was also quite well.”

I really wanted to go to Leeds - Piroe

Leeds striker Joel Piroe spurned interest from a host of clubs including Everton, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Leicester City; opting instead to join the Whites last Summer.

During an interview with ESPN, The Dutch forward explained he had his heart set on going to Leeds, as apposed to a 'lesser team' in the top flight. Better chances and more game time was also a contributing factor in his decision making.

In 1749 minutes of game time, the 24yo has already netted 9 times (11 in all competitions), even though he's playing in a deeper role which he may be less familiar with.

“A choice between a lesser team in the Premier League or a top team in the Championship. I weighed it up. I really wanted to go to Leeds. I expected more chances than at a low-flyer in the Premier League.

“Moreover, the chance of playing time at Leeds was also greater than in the Premier League. During my career I’ve noticed how important that is. Leeds was a very conscious choice for the sporting plan.”

Morning all. Typical of the time of year. Loads of discussion of who’s gonna swoop for our better players, where can we offload the excess baggage and what are our targets. Not my favourite time of footballing calendar as if being honest we seldom if ever emerge as stronger afterwards

    Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

The Bamford situation clearly shows that the older lads are not good enough any more. Bamford needs to goout on loan or accept a pay cut to sign for another club. All he’s doing is showing football that it’s all about wages and not trying to enhance his career. Biggest mistake made by Leeds was giving him a great big contract all because he had one great season in the prem. as soon as he got it he hasnt done anything. 2 years now vegetating on the physio couch or subs bench.

Why would he take a pay cut?

If your boss asked you to take a pay cut way beneath you're current contract agreement you'd rightly tell him to **** right off.

Was it in his contract about a wage cut if relegated?

Your other point about Leeds making a mistake by offering him said contract is valid point. That's the crux of the Bamford issue. Its not his fault the contract was offered.

If I was Jammyesque I'd take the opportunity to take the high ground here and tell everyone that I said Bamford was ****e all along but I'm not really like that. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Why would he take a pay cut? My point was if he wanted to show everyone that it wasn’t about money it was about self esteem and getting his career back on line then I would take a pay cut and move

Going back onthe old boy debate. What have they done for the last 2 seasons? 1 hasnt played for nearly 2 seasons, 1 has hardly played at all and hasn’t done his job when he has. The other 2 have been in and out injured or suspended. All 4 presided over the worst season in the clubs recent past and the truth is they should have been upgraded 2 summers ago ensuring they would be sat on the bench and not starters.

Throwing five year contracts at them I suspect has complicated things a fair bit

Bamford has looked disinterested! He won't go anywhere; nobody else is going to cover his wages...

If I was in Bamford's shoes I'd be looking over seas to relight my career. I'm pretty sure China, Saudi or the MLS could cover the wages.

Regarding his contract it was a bad idea renewing it after 1 good season but from what I can gather if was to keep Spurs at bay after they had problems with Kane.

    Morning all

Regarding Bamford: A Leeds fan wanted his kid killed and dog chucked down the stairs earlier this very year (might be the other way around). I doubt very much that he has any loyalty left in him.

Didn't your man Jesse Marsch play Bamford with his foot problem and then he snapped it, after which he's never been the same player ? Seem to remember Jesse saying it was probably better to snap it so it could heal properly as well.

    Bamford for Leeds;

    18/19 starts 15 goals 9 (EFL
    19/20 starts 43 goals 16 (EFL)
    20/21 starts 37 goals 17 (PL)
    21/22 starts 7 goals 2 (PL)
    22/23 starts 18 goals 4 (PL)

Total starts 110 & goals 48 (completed seasons only)

Initially signed on a 4 year deal from Boro for £7M so after his 17 goal PL season was entering the final year of his contract meaning a new deal was definitely the right way to go at that time.

He'd probably be better off getting a job away from football because you'll get those kind of brain dead idiots spouting bollox at any club he went to not just leeds United
