At least the result was basically a 2-0 defeat, and the GD didn’t end up taking a total battering.

The good news is that if our backsides weren't already in gear about getting another CB early in January, they absolutely will be now

The bad news is that I can see Nice and Dragusin's agent having a competition between themselves to see who can play silly buggers the most all month long...

Is it strange that I don’t feel disappointed or surprised?

Scoreline flattered Spurs ( <applause> to Vicario for that( ,

First PL game this season where the manager
has selected an evidently bad starting XI.

Also the on-pitch discipline is now becoming
untenable (serious hairdryer treatment required) .

On the plus side, Veliz gets a reasonable
run-out one game later than I suggested,
and got a goal to boot,

Emerson as a full back I can slightly tolerate. Certainly is not a centre back...

I think you need look no further than the absence of van der Ven, Romero, Maddison, Bentancur and Bissouma.

Shocking for far too much of the game and too many players having poor games. Can’t be giving away two soft pens like that in any case so we dug our own hole. And if we had showed half the urgency for the rest of the game that we did at the end then we’d have been better off most likely.

Sure a couple of decisions didn’t go our way, just seen the replay of the Son body check and they were very lucky that wasn’t a foul or even a pen. And Dunk could have had no complaints if he’d walked. Their second pen was also doubtful. But you can’t play as we did and expect to just cruise to a result.

I suspect there are a few players who have sealed their long term fates the last few appearances they’ve had. Getting it all done in January is unrealistic but we really need 3 players - a CB, CM and forward, if we want to make a serious dent in the table for the rest of the season. I’d like us to do it because I think this is the type of season where a team who builds momentum and gets lucky with injuries could do well.

People's expectations are way too high. A makeshift defence and it's Xmas. More life from Spurs for many seasons.

I can’t even do that. I’m envious of Stevie Wonder whenever Emerson plays football.

It didn’t have to be a makeshift defence. We had three CBs on the bench but started two FBs at CB.

And the rest, plus the lack of suitable back-up, but we have to use what we've got.
Emerson and Davies together as a centre-half pairing is just asking to lose.
I can only assume that we've got a deal lined up for Dier to leave, but I doubt that's even true.

So the mission for training tomorrow: Phillips or Dorrington need to be really, really good at receiving the ball from the GK and taking the ball forward

I don't see that at all. That's just pure speculation.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s never to buy a Brazilian full back again.

Gilberto at LB and Emerson at RB.

Roberto Carlos and Cafu must be livid.
