He needs to score goals though he’s part of a front 3 he’s not a RB, he gets judged off numbers.

I think he’s great to watch on the ball and he’s definitely one of the best in the division for some aspects of his game ie dribbling, ball control but you can’t sacrifice end product for that imo. His 1 assist and 0 goals at this stage of the season has to be the worst for goal contributions per 90 or certainly one of.

He looks like he's trying to score the perfect goal to me, rarely seems content to just have a pop from a decent position. I think he's a bit of a luxury player, great (and effective) when we're flying and there's plenty of space but when it's like it is now we get little out of him. He doesn't defend as well as Clarke either.

I've always been a fan of his and Beale can help turn it around for him but I strongly believe that a different player given his game time would have contributed more.

I’m torn. Clarke’s supply to the forward isn’t great but he scores. Roberts isn’t the best and he doesn’t. And we’re short of goals. I agree his burst forward, the defenders covering have an impact but I’m not sure whether that’s enough. That said I think I proper striker bursting towards the near post yesterday and gets an assist. When Aouchiche went on he knocked two or three early crosses that made them defend in the box facing their goal. He also played a clever flick creating a half chance. Mayenda has a huge burst of pace and heads goalwards sooner. So there are other options that need more time than they’re getting. His place is under pressure unless he starts to turn runs into goal stats.

None of them have really been given any consistent game time though only Ba who’s blown hot and cold. I think some of these young lads we have would go to other teams in the league who aren’t as fortunate to have the options we do and thrive once they’re given regular minutes

I just hope Roberts plays against Burn in the cup. He'll have him for toast on the ground.

I think the lack of a striker situation takes away from Clarke what he is, an absolutely fantastic winger that any team in his league would love to have.

He’s a young lad who has had a lot of pressure on his shoulders very quickly. If we had a CF that was banging in 15/20 goals a season etc then every time Clarke gets the ball you’d just sit back and enjoy watching the lad, instead a fair few of our fans have raised expectations on his performances, and if he doesn’t score then suddenly he’s not good enough, or letting us down which isn’t the case at all.

One day the lad will move on and he’ll leave a massive void in the side, you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.

He’s a great player but not irreplaceable we just have to make sure we’re on the ball when that time comes. Plymouth snapped up Morgan Whittaker for pennies and he’s currently on 12 goals this season none of which are penalties (Clarke is 11 with 5 pens). We were linked with him and obviously hindsight is a beautiful thing but had we pushed for him we would’ve had 2 very good wingers contributing goals this season.

not sure if it was just me but we seemed to stick with a 'rigid' 4-2-4, there was less effort made in getting/keeping the ball and more of making it hard for hull to break on us, decent enough game but still work to be done on the attacking side but that has been a problem for a while...same lads in the squad so need to get the confidence around the box back into them, this is where beale will need to 'do his work' and is where he will win/lose support.

thought dack was doing ok and was a shame to see him having to go off, hopefully it will be a minor problem, ekwah looked more like himself again.

another good ref/officials i thought but the players helped make it an easy game for them to do thier jobs, none of this pushing and pulling every time a lad got the ball, credit to hull for that.

roberts...becoming the new 'gooch', i like to see the lad try as he can run rings around defences but he has to start to mix it up more and forget about trying to score every time, he was much more relaxed when amad was playing those little link passes with him, maybe he needs that type of partnership to shine.

MotM has to go to clarke for the only real high spot of the game, mention to seelt again who has come in and quietly done a very good job.

I think we should wait and see what Beale can do to get Roberts scoring and assisting again.
He is supposed to be an excellent coach so I would fully expect him to get Roberts sorted.

When Roberts gets on the ball the opposition usually put two players on him. This must leave a gap somewhere.
If they do the same to Clarke then how many gaps do we get.
When we do get a proper goal scoring striker then either he will have two players marking him leaving ever more gaps or he will find these gaps left by the opposition doubling up on Roberts and Clarke.

Beale has inherited a hugely talented squad so if he’s even half the coach he is supposed to be then the future could be brilliant for us.

I think against Coventry we were very unlucky and didn’t deserve to lose.
We beat Hull fair and square but they missed some good chances and it could easily have gone wrong.
Apart from maybe Leicester we probably have the most talented squad in the Championship and I wouldn’t swap our Lads for any other squad.
I can see a bright future for us.
I also think KLD and Speakman are doing a great job. We’re not there yet but they are well on the way and doing all the right things.

Sorry if this has been discussed (I haven’t read the whole thread) but what is the deal with Rusyn?

Every time he’s played (perhaps with the exception of the first half at Plymouth) he’s looked effective and more than worthy of a run in the side. In fact, when we’ve gone a little more direct with him in the team we’ve had amongst our best performances of the season.

Mowbray stopped playing him before he was sacked, he didn’t see the light of day under Dodds(I know he missed a game with a groin injury amongst that) and now Beale has continued that. Is there more to it than what we see/know?

I’m saying it as someone that didn’t wet the bed over the Beale appointment but I do find it a little frustrating that he’s not addressed some of my biggest frustrations with Mowbray at the end - namely not looking to find a way to integrate/play with a striker and favouring the likes of Dack over someone like Aouchiche who I believe will be far more effective and is worth investing in. But it’s very early days - he’s had very little training time so is going to be reliant on the current coaches input initially and also he’s perhaps sensibly decided not to come in all guns blazing and will make changes more incrementally.

I still maintain (and I know that I’m in the minority here) that there’s talent there in Rusyn, Mayenda and Hemir and that it’s up to the coach to use them effectively. I don’t buy into the ‘lack of striker situation’ and I feel like it just becomes a lazy excuse. Mind, it flies in the face of the Beale just being a yes man to Speakman nonsense and the latter picking the team.

I’m not sure about Hemir. He should smash the under 21’s and doesn’t. The other 2 yes. It’s a tough time for Beale to start - play recover play recover. We need an international week to see his impact fully.

Rotherham on Friday is a great opportunity to play one of the forwards in my opinion. They are a poor side and despite winning yesterday they were completely dominated, Boro created a bucketload of chances and had all the possession. We just need one of them to get a bit of confidence and we'll be a completely different side going forward

Agree mate, I’m convinced in the admittedly little game time he’s had,Rusyn, could of played the role Ba and Dack struggled with in my opinion. Not to get any game time recently is puzzling

Yeah for sure. Feel like we plucked Jack out of spurs’ back pocket sometimes. Very surprised and pleased that we got him on a perm after his loan spell

Are you talking about Pembele? I’ve not heard anything similar of Rusyn and we’ve played him previously then just stopped.
