Following on from our frantic win over Newcastle, could we be in place to win a trophy this season? Yes Newcastle looked tired and defended for most of the game but they almost saw it out. Belief and determination until the end saw us make the breakthrough which ultimately lead us to win on penalties. Is this the beginning of the revival we’ve all been so desperate to see?
Hope so, we were a bit raggedy at times but got better as we settled down. Determination and luck going our way got us home. When we eventually do the simple things well and relax a bit things will improve. Energy and effort are pretty damned good, so spirits are fine.
Thought it was going to be one of those nights but fortunately the mistakes evened out and we were well worth at least a draw. Having said that, with VAR, Caicedo gets sent off after about 90 seconds imo, no idea what he’s thinking. A big confidence boost for a couple of players struggling for form, Mudryk especially and nice to see Nkunku finally make his debut. Hopefully the start of a decent run of form but I still don’t have any confidence in us and we’ll probably struggle again at the weekend!
Yeah every time we get a bit of luck and a decent result I hope its going to mark a turning point in our season, but the following week we go right back to being dogshit. So I wont count my chickens just yet. Other than the mistake each of our defences made it was a pretty bland game that could have gone either way. I mean, its a knockout comp so I will take a victory any way I can get it, and Newcastle are a decent side, but its not the kind of performance that gets me excited. At home, especially with the amount of injuries Newcastle have right now, we should be doing better. Positives though a) We won and are through to the Semis b) Nkunku made an appearance
Poor old Badashiel had a poor game, just don’t get why Colwill isn’t getting a run at CD and Maatsen as a left or right back. The lack of overlapping with James and Chilwell missing is holding back our wingers chances and unbalancing the Team. Much better to come when that’s sorted out, but we’ve got all our recognised specialists out injured.
Maatsen and Gusto should be the bookends of a pairing with Colwill (while Chillwell and James are out) and anyone else but not Badass. Hope Cuckoo stays away from the team as long as possible. Not sure about Mudryk his basic play is pretty poor, as is Sterling's, MoM for me was Gallagher against Barcodes, also think midfield was better without the 1000m dude. Little fella with a world cup winner medal has a lot of weight to carry and is struggling to justify his worth if he just plays his own way we may see a return on the investment but I will not hold my breath.
No. Dogshite at Wolves, something is wrong, players are not good enough, who brought this load of losers to our club.
Jackson is abysmal, Sterling cost us with his appalling judgement, Badashiell is not as good as Zouma, Disasi is miles below Chalobah. And still Colwill plays out of position and Maatsen watches this shambles from the bench. Starting to tire of Pochettinos' excuses too, he needs to have a good look in the mirror, because his selections, coaching of defence and tactics are well short of what we need.Wish he'd just once start the team with players in their specialist positions and pick on form. At least get some semblance of teamwork happening, not just hope someone does something great, cause they aren't doing anything well at all.Broja is also not worth 2 bob and again was invisible. He also needs to kick the arses of the dopes who got stupidly yellow carded.........again.
You get the feeling that Poch does know his best team, he’s just being told what team he has to play. Classic no-nothing owner situation. sadly more time does need to be given for the new arrivals to get to grips with stuff but some players need to be gotten rid of. I cannot believe Sterling’s lack of team ethic and judgement. Would have been fine if he’d scored but he made the exact wrong call. let’s hope the new year brings better football.
Thoughts against Palace. Hard win, but interesting. Despite one poor miss, Jackson looked more interested and did quite a few good things.Mudryk was excellent 1st half but weird subs saw our attack narrowed and Palace come on strong, before Poch changed it up again to better effect. Gusto was top man, Goalie did well, Gallagher ran and ran and Caceido was off his game.Nkunku showed he will be very important and looks the goods.Maatsen was played out of position ( not again Poch) as was Colwill and our centre backs were pretty ordinary again. Why oh why doesn't Colwill get to play where he belongs?? We were sooooooo negative at the back and played ourself into trouble all game with pointless backward passes. A win is a win and Maduekes' determination to run AT the goal gave it to us. Another up and down performance, excellent and dreadful at the same time. Tough to watch, but better than it has been.
