One thought about today and indeed Bristol. Theres been talk of city wanting to sign Delap on a permanent, actually the guy on Tigers + said we were looking to sign Morton too, these players are going to have to want to come and results like today and Friday I'm sure wont help./
Quite. That's my point. We need to improve that, but it doesn't quite require the overhaul of the playing style that some seem to crave every time we lose.
I'm getting a bored of sacrificing points to playing nice, I believe in playing the 'right way', but at the moment, we seem to be intent on making nice shapes and patterns, like goals don't matter.
Two evenly matched teams. They had their best player available, we didn't have ours. If we had Jaden on the pitch and they didn't have Clarke we would probably have won that game
We desperately need some genuine championship experience on the pitch and daee I say of it as well. Probably sounds daft to the usual suspects, but I'd absolutely love Rosie as our manager.......but in 5+ years time.
Who else is going to play there? Not Lokilo for me - things broke down too often when he got the ball today. It's needs must at the moment. There was one move in the first half today which highlighted for me why we have signed Sharp. Delap got to the by-line, Connolly made a run to the front post and Delap played the ball into acres of space around the penalty spot. An experienced striker like Sharp would have held his run and found the space
We crammed too many square pegs into round holes again today and it backfired again. Everyone bar Delap and Tufan looked like they couldn't be arsed in the first half. Morton had a cracking second half to be fair to him. Lokilo made a big difference too when he came on. Tufan covered a lot of ground and made himself available deeper too. Played well but fluffed his lines in the vital moments. Poor game from Twine but he shouldn't be playing wide. Coyle coped defensively but was a large part of nothing happening with the ball in the first half. He wasn't the only one guilty of this. This system clearly relies on actual wingers. Lokilo has earned a start on Friday, surely. Vaughan isn't the answer yet but at least he's a legitimate option to play a wide position. What's the point in having a squad if the same 13 players keep getting shoved into whatever positions we can put them in? For a team that isn't clinical in front of goal, to only manage one tame effort on goal in the first 45 mins is never going to help. The first half produced the sort of stats we saw at the start of the season when we were scraping draws, the odd win and the odd loss, similarly to last season too. A poor game and a headscratcher unfortunately.
Lokilo was one of the few actually making things happen and creating chances when he came on. Gave Morton an outlet he'd been missing and allowed Delap to go central.
Today it screamed out for Macca playing in the centre of defence with Greaves at left back, **** knows why Rosenior would see it any differently, and please don’t get me started with his frustrating habit of chucking Scott Twine under the humber 46 by playing as a ‘left winger’ which he’s clearly not. If he’d have played him as a 10, where he’s shown himself to be most effective, he might even been on to score a worldy free kick at the end.
