This Speakman picks the team thing is totally exaggerated. I even heard a rumour Mowbray was telling everyone at last years Xmas party that he didn't pick the team. Utter bollocks man. KS literally came out in one of his first interviews and said the team will be separated into 3 categories and that's exactly how the squad has been assembled since then. Whether this is correct or the manager is getting enough out of them is a different question.
Said this in the pub - this is Speakman's gamble and if Beale fails it won't just be the Head Coach who leaves
Here’s an idea for the coach/es, play a recognised c/h and maybe we might defend a bit better. O9 is not the answer
Absolutely gutted for you mate. Nothing anyone can say other than to remember you and the rest of your family have each other.
I don't normally comment after defeats as most people's views are clouded by the disappointment. I'm hoping today was too early for Beale to really implement any of his ideas because TM could have been in the dugout today, same set up , same subs , same players, we are becoming so easy to defend against, yes we have lots of possession but do nothing with it. We have to play with one of the strikers, from what we've seen of Rusyn and Mayenda they have to be a better option than Ba up front. I'm not criticising Beale it's too early, I'm not criticising Speakman because so far I think he's done a fantastic job, I just hope things change because under TM it had gone stale and today was no difference. I'd love to know why we aren't playing with a striker as I'm sure after having no striker that Speakman signed 4 just to develop them. Tuesday may still be too early for Beale to implement much more but hopefully there may be slight changes
Not read everything but my take on it is that it was no worse than Mowbray’s last game or 2 and Beale probably hasn’t had long enough to sort things out. Trouble is at this time of year there’s too many games and not enough training time. I think we need to put Rusyn up front with Jobe playing more forward as well. Take Robert’s out of the team as he just wants to run into groups of defenders and when he does get a chance to shoot it’s pathetically weak. Pritchard is a big miss. Why is Ballard taking goal kicks if he’s just going to pass to Patterson? We have a genuinely good squad that just needs sorting a bit. Fans should give Beale time to do it. Supporters should support.
Found the whole thing since social media went into meltdown and continued today at the match an embarrassment to the club. Grown men acting like a spoiled kid who got the wrong toy for Christmas. I'd understand it a bit more if the complaints against him held weight but they don't it's just waffle from people who don't know what they're talking about. My biggest cheer of the day was when Beale was announced. Not that there was much competition.
Completely agree. Cheering Ba coming off was ****ing disgraceful too. The kid shouldn’t be playing centre forward and taking him off was the correct decision and it was too late but ****in hell, he’s our player and that reaction will just bash any confidence he has. We have some morons among our fanbase. Absolute ****ing morons
Worst thing about it was he'd actually been decent in the 2nd half had a few good runs and was holding the ball up and getting it out wide. He's not a centre forward and his finishing is appalling but for 25 mins in the 2nd half he was the most effective he had been for months.
Yeah first half pretty bad but second he was much better, seemed to get an injection of confidence and energy. Might be an example of what Beale can do because it was an impressive turnaround. Just no more Ba at CF, doesn't do him any good, the team any good or anything for the confidence of the actual CFs on the bench. Good player potentially but best used out wide.
Is playing no strikers and a load of midfielders similar to playing a load of strikers and no midfielders. Does any other team play only defenders and midfielders like we do. I think everyone on here wants Rusyn to be given a reasonable run of 5-10 games so that we have at least one player on the field who knows what a striker should do. We will not be getting promoted this season (we would get murdered every week if we somehow went up, we’re not ready) so giving Rusyn a long run would get him ready for a real attempt at promotion next season. If he’s useless at least we will know it. Right now he seems to be our best hope for a striker.
If we don't start a forward on boxing day I think my head will explode. But if we insist on not playing one it has to be Jobe who is the most advanced player. If we look at our most successful signings in recent years, in my opinion they are Clarke and Ballard, they both have been played consistently and in basically the same position every time they have played. Then we look at players like Ba who has not progressed at all really since joining but look at how we have handled him, he has played from what I can remember in at least 5 different positions. Our best run this season came with him playing on the right yet he doesn't get a sniff there now despite having better numbers than Roberts (who is really starting to frustrate me now, I don't care how many players you can dance around if you can't shoot or pass when it matters). How is that helping him develop? Same goes for Seelt, he has played in a couple of positions already and despite playing very well against arguably the best attack in the league in Leeds he gets dropped yet O'Nien, who I am a big fan of, refuses to learn from his mistakes but plays 90 minutes week in week out. The most disappointing thing for me though is our handling of the group of forwards we brought in. Strikers, by nature, are confidence players, but I doubt any of ours have an ounce of confidence between them now and that is due to the dreadful management of them. Give them a run of games, create a system which creates chances and THEN judge them. Don't give them a handful of minutes, pick one and stick with them. I get that today Beale probably took the advice of the remaining coaches for team selection and set up but things have to change, both quickly and dramatically, if he wants to stick to his aim of the playoffs.
not going to make too much out of that game regarding beale although the players really need to get back that confidence they have lost recently...i mentioned a few weeks back that with this being a young squad i was worried that a drop in confidence could hit them hard and right now that is what it looks like, passing is awful, shooting is dreadful, taking the ball when put through is not working. now these are very much the same lads that had to find a way to score with no striker and we saw how well they handled that, much of the passing and movement was way above the standard they were at and it was a joy to watch. now, beale is the one that was chosen and we need to give him time to get his views/ideas into the lads, less than a week is not enough time to start and judge, in fact i honestly think we need to be looking towards the end of the season to guage how things are going, especially if some new lads come in next month.
Can't get it about a goalkeeper and two full backs being required to take a goal kick - the number of times they end up under pressure and one of the three ends up with a big hoof being the only option - which the goalkeeper could have done on his own in the first place. As far as Patterson and Ballard, if they have to do it, surely instead of relying on Pattersons poor passing to pass out, it would make sense if he played it to Ballard and let him progress it
I'm not sure what O'Nien did today to make him singled out for criticism out of our defence and keeper. I haven't seen the goals back to forensically identify who was to blame for what but he looked like he had a decent game especially 1v1 with Simms who was a handful. No doubt it was all his fault but it didn't seem that way to me.
