Jones was pulled back but it was soft. It’s a game of luck sometimes, that one went against you and the two deflections went for you!
Agreed, although the guy does seem content with being a career back up, he could have dropped his wage demands to be a starter elsewhere but he went to Leeds to sit on the bench and pick up his Premier League paycheck. Its a shame a good player is being wasted but I can’t help feeling it’s partly his own fault.
If true then it’s shocking, isn’t it? I’d like to think he thought he was going to have a good chance at being first choice though!
We're shipping too many poor goals - agreed and yes the keepers should do better but in reality the last line of defence haven't done their job either - it's up the them to stop the attacks or stop the crosses coming in and in this respect we are also very poor - Coule is probably the best of the bunch at the back but he is playing out of position - Christie is not the player from last season and is poor defensively, Greaves may look good going forward but defensively he is a liability, out of position and poor at stopping shots and crosses and Jones is OK ish but he's not a stand out centre back, Macca is probably the best stopper of our three centre backs but often to slow to bring play forward - so in a nutshell - Coyle needs to revert to right back - we need a new left back and we definitely need a new centre back who can dominate the defence - none of our centre backs in anyway dominate the box in the way Turner, Dawson or Davies did - so whilst the club seem to be looking at the forwards, they really should be looking at significant additions at the back
That sums it up for me. We're beginning to look like a decent attacking side who can put the ball in the net against most teams but defensively we look week and dishevelled. Football is essentially based on trying to outscore the opposition but with us, most of the time, we are trying to outscore our own sloppy mistakes...UTT!!
Someone put since McGregor every goalie we have used has been the number 2 to the previous one, and you need to spend as much on a goalie as you do on a striker, very tight not paying for Darlow and it’s costing us a lot of points. Oh and I only saw the goals on my phone late last night and never realised Ingram came on
Comments has been made so many times that when Rosenior came he stopped us conceding. I was just looking back over results, we dont get beaten 1-0, its always by conceding 2 or more and looking back and trying to remember (someone will be more accurate) the goals conceded in the majority of cases come down our right flank. Christie has gone, he has league one, league two legs. For all the excellent progress, Keeper and full backs will ultimately kill this season.
What if we play Christie at right side of he backs he did once last year , he is strong tall and he says he’s naturally a back not a wing back Thought too many players were coasting last night maybe assuming they would win eventually , Bristol were sharp , energetic and backed ach other up but - we attacked poorly when we had so many good positions . Thought Connolly was knocked iff he ball too easily maybe playing for a foul - the refs aren’t giving them so easily now .
If we'd paid for Darlow you'd still be sat here moaning that he was the number 2 to his previous number one.
That really felt like a wasted opportunity, up to them scoring their 2nd goal I did feel we controlled things, but I did feel we might rue not going for the 3rd goal, and so it proved. Fair play to them, they did come out with more energy 2nd half, but until the scored I thought we were coping with it quite well. Alsopp for me was at fault for their 2nd, though I did feel Ingram was a bit unlucky as from behind the goal he seemed to have the shot covered, but Jones deflected it. Though to have 3 shots from more or less the same position, 2 they scored from and the one Alsopp saved and got injured, they should have been stopped at source. Like one or two pointed out, they did seem to get a bit of the rub of the green with deflections, whereas on the night we didn't. Having said that, we should have seen the game out at 2-1. Tufan and Seri as well as Morton had good games, and so did Coyle, Greaves and Jones. Both De Lap and Connolly certainly gave their back line something to think about when we had the ball further forward. Christie really has lost a lot of pace, and defensively he doesn't look great. I fear if he plays against Sunderland up against Clarke, Clarke could have a field day. I would be inclined to move Greaves to LB and Coyle on the right and bring Macca in for Christie. I guess that is the championship for you, you win some, you lose some. All will be forgiven if we get the win against the Mackems.
Not feeling any less frustrated this morning. That's another game we should have got something out of. A point would have probably been fair, but all three wouldn't have seemed like a robbery. Once again we start strong, look the better team but create no real chances. The oppo get the first good chance around the 15 minute mark having not been at the races since the start. Once again we concede the first goal. (The circumstances of the build up were fortuitous for them even if the actual penalty was fair enough). Once again we react strongly and get ourselves in an excellent position. Once again we suffer because of mistakes at the back. Once again we look strong going forward but don't create enough or convert chances into goals, when chasing the game. Frustrating. We look good. We win games. We aren't overrun. We don't get battered. However, we make too many mistakes. We drop too many points. We're 65% of an excellent team. It's looking like we need to keep the recruitment going over the next 2 windows and hopefully we'll be ready for the big push next season. This season? Probably not.
There were two fouls to choose from, the pull back on Jones was blatant, easy to spot, and very stupid by the defender. So, not completely wrong or, in fact, wrong at all. Apart from that, carry on.
