I feel really sorry for Stewart, but more proof that our recruitment department steals a living. Many of us no marks could make better transfer decisions than the ‘professionals’ at the club. So foreseeable.
100%. Except this signing felt like a bad idea from the start. As a result of signing an injured player we had to retain Che, a disinterested player who wants out.
Piroe was there waiting for us, reasonable return this season for Leeds (a direct rival for promotion).
I'm sorry, but the questions should be directed at our medical team, not the recruitment team. He obviously should have failed the medical and the blame lies with the morons who passed him.
Do we reckon this will force the club to sign a new striker now, or will we persist with what we have?
Probably looking at two new forward options in Jan (if we decide to sell Adams with only 6 months left which I think we should).
You don’t pass or fail medicals, tbf. Not sure how anyone could’ve predicted a major hamstring injury (happy to be corrected) I agree it was a big gamble on an injured player and has totally failed for this season’s purpose, though - just think it’s a bit much to blame the medical staff when we have no knowledge of what their feedback was
A valid point but if we go back to the day he signed there were strong rumours that there were issues with his medical. Now we don't know how accurate they were but the rumours came from a fairly reliable Sunderland source IIRC. And the delay in announcing the signing does suggest some truth in those rumours. It did sound like we were close to pulling the plug on the deal.
The problem is that he could have been fantastic this year. I am not sure he is ready for the premier league next year
I don’t think you can blame the medical team really. At the end of the day, after such a long time out unrelated injuries are common. I think we can blame the board for not going and getting Piroe who was the absolutely obvious choice to follow Martin.
This suggests to me that the issue is not with the medical team at all. The fact there were runours and delays suggests the medical discovered possible issues which the recruitment team had to take into account before sanctioning the signing. It could only be the medical teams fault if they completely missed something but that doesn't seem the case here. Of course we will never see the medical data so will never know for sure.
Isn’t it fairly common for players returning from a long term injury to then suffer another when they start playing again? Often, as in Stewart’s case, a totally different injury from the one he had recovered from. I think it also happened to Tino, after his ACL, as one example. With this in mind it doesn’t look great for whoever sanctioned the signing.
I always believed we signed him knowing he had an injury and took that calculated risk Its gone a bit wrong, but we are 4th, so hey? We need to get someone in in Jan, and for me ideally let Che go and bring in a 2nd option We need someone different to what we have, Champ experience preferably, on a loan Mara is showing signs of improvement and may really start to click soon, but then again ...
Noises coming out the club suggest Mara will be off on loan and we will only buy a striker if we sell Adams - which we will if he doesn't sign a new deal.
