    That's modern football
You should embrace it and not be a dinasaur
How can you expect to win matches without conceding unnecessary goals?

They've looked like us on a bad day. Good in possession but not creating a lot then concede from a playing out from the back **** up. Can see how LR got his influence from them

Brighton had the possession but Palace had the chances - and the goal.

Brighton have now realised that they need to be more direct. Pity it took conceding a goal to realise that.

Makes you wonder how Brighton were 9 points ahead of palace having played a game less going into the fixture then, doesn't it?

I mean who'd want to play europa league football when you can hoof your way to survival every season?

What I dont understand about this "messing about at the back" theory is the pros and cons
The pro is supposed to be spreading the play which should create opportunities
These "opportunities" are available to both sides due to the usual changes in possession
The con is risking conceding goals
This risk is only available to the side messing about at the back

    Neither side has been "hoofing"
Only one side has messed about at the back - some think that means the other side must be "hoofing" it.

Part of the posession based strategy and spreading play is to make them run and chase more than you do early on, so they tire quicker later on.

    Brighton are exploiting exactly that.

To get near enough to do that, they have to individually cover more ground to press. Not only that when you have only 40% posession you're doing a lot more work to exploit the 'messing around at the back' and also leaving larger gaps between your defensive and midfield lines to play through.

And we've seen ourselves, that what has been characterised as suicidal risk by some, had only led to about 3 goals directly conceded from playing out in Liams first calendar year in charge, and a lot more scored directly as a result of doing it.

    Agree entirely Peter. :emoticon-0100-smile
'Twas my weak attempt at humour by way of referencing llamas mentioned on yesterday's "Christmas thread" Peter.
Lallana's substitution was facetiously implying, unlike llama's, Adam L. didn't have hooves, hence no hoofing the ball would occur. :emoticon-0148-yes:

No goals were scored by us from our messiing about at the back
goals were scored by us from playing football of various shades: balls over the top, interpassing, dribbling, shooting, etc.

I know. I liked it. I just wanted to get my dig in against messing about at the back. I like Brighton's football. Some think there is only two choices in football: messing about at the back or "hoofing it", when in reality you can play the ball out from the back, interpassing, playing the ball over the top ala Morten to Tufan, dribbling ala Philogene, etc.
you dont have to try to concede goals by playing suicidal passes around your own penalty area

We're playing the most attractive football we've played in years and we're sixth in the league and you're still ****ing moaning. <doh>
