Based on Utd's performance yesterday are they back to their best, yet again. BBC raving over Onana's 34 saves against us, can't recall any particularly brilliant ones he just did some straight forward saves which in previous games he has messed up. I watched the new Chicken Run last night, after our game I found it very exciting!
Its hilarious. the poor lad kicked the ball out of play about 20 times last night, couldn't hardly make a pass. None of our lot had the ****ing brains to press arambrat and lef tit to the 3 forwards to mark up 5 utd players and he STILL lumped it out over the side line. He made one save. just one form vvd, and thats right at him and easy. the rest you could have a 10 year old throw a cap over. If trent had have hit the target onana would be getting pelters today for a huge gaff.
Anyway back on theme. The crowd were ****e. I'd say half the locals sold the ticket on for vast profit and it was a bunch of oot. Trent was ****e. first half he was shanking the ball out of play down the line or hoofing woeful crosses over. second half at cm he was woeful with back to play and really didn't drive the team when moved up. sorry but some basci defending doens't really excuse that performance on the ball Szoboszlai looked like he spent his time off drinking. he was falling over the ball or over hitting passes out of play. He was trying to run but on the ball he was woeful. Diaz looks totally flat after th whole father stuff and imo he just doesn't look sharp. Salah is boned. He is run into the ground and is old. his touch was away, his shots were weak and his passing was off. Seriously folks if saudi bid in January and its 150mil i'd be selling even though the team without him is bang average. heres not 2 years left in him at this level, no way. Utd didn't even press endo. thats how bad man utd were. He got an easy ride of it but actually had the ability to turn with the ball unlike trent at cm. Nunez was permanently offside and anonymous. It was poor showing. really poor. under zero pressure from utd defenders and he just kept wandering out wide and offside. Gravenberch and tsimikas were only "alright" nothing special they were not falling over each other but they simply were not seeing any options to pass to. jones never got a touch of the ball as far as i recall. elliott busied himself after coming on and did his best but the rest were just flat.
Nunez is offering very little through the middle and Diaz is just not himself, I'd rather go Nunez Gakpo Salah vs Arsenal. Let's do something different because we aren't really causing much trouble of late.
United came for a draw and they got it, their bubble will burst sooner than later. please log in to view this image
United basically did what Luton did, but without as much of an attacking threat, so they didn't come as close to winning. More power to them, because both teams showed that it works against us. I can only hope that our link up play improves before it's too late.
can't say i was that surprised yesterday as it has been coming . Our results have been better than our performances have "deserved" for a while and half the team looks like it is running on empty.
Really poor game, again. There is a lack of cohesion, partnerships, link ups across the entire team. When so many players play so poorly, that's often because of the tactics than the individuals. Some of the tactical issues we see consistently: - Lack of width - no coincidence we look better when Gomez comes on and stays wide, allowing Salah to move centrally - Trent, Dom and Salah have no synergy mostly because we're trying to accommodate Trent in midfield, meaning Dom has to do the grunt work. - Unbalanced midfield with Grav and Dom - both are direct players. We need a mid who is more content with keeping the ball and recycling possession In terms of personnel: - We have a CF with little to no intelligence and poor technique - 2 wide men who can no longer beat a man - full back playing a hybrid role - we just need to move Trent into midfield full time and buy a natural RB - No DM Despite all of this, we're still 1 point off the top whilst currently in transition. Shouldn't be too disheartened because we are a work in progress. Hopefully we can iron out these issues
My man of the match is Manchester United goalkeeper. He played his best of the season at Anfield. Onana is not that rubbish after all.
Apart from the complete flap minute one, the dropped ball shortly after and the dozen or so chipped passes straight out of play - he was mustard
Apparently the mancs were robbed. Nunez should have been sent off for his reaction to the lino after this first yellow and salah should have gone for waving imaginary cards and kicking the ball away. The ref was clearly in LFCs pocket as he wasted the final minutes of added time sending off an innocent player who did no more than any manc would when faced with a dodgy ref. If haaland can scream in their face why can't dalot?
I wasn't impressed with him. He was ineffective in distribution and when collecting the ball in the box he on multiple occasions tapped it barely out of the box straight to a Liverpool player. A better keeper, we would have had less possession, and more crucially less possession in their third. Ability to retain the ball starts with the keeper.
Didn't see the game and I haven't read the post match stuff. I would have rather had 3 points, obviously, but I will take the 1 from a notoriously unpredictable fixture. At the start of the season I don't think anyone, including Liverpool fans, thought we'd be anywhere near the top of the table at all, nevermind this early on. We're at the start of a rebuild and the players are still getting to know each other. I'm looking forward to the games when the team actually starts playing, if we're doing this well in second gear.
Little known trivia: Nunez is an old Spanish word hailing back to ancient Gallicia meaning "he who is offside". Who do we have for upfront? Who could have taken his place though? From the bench we had Gakpo and Elliot fit. Gakpo actually didn't have a bad game when he came on, but (no disrespect to Gakpo) he's perhaps our least impressive senior forward... Although, we needed someone with creativity and he has that. Elliot, who more naturally would replace Sarah's position and not a replacement for Darwin. Darwin is frustrating. He misses a lot and is offside a lot, but he really does disrupt opposition defences pretty well. I wonder if perhaps he should be used as a super sub. Wait until legs are a little tired and game settled rather than starting. I just don't think we have much better to replace him with at the moment.
no we don't have anyone better due to injury and its a closed window so we need to make the best of it bit he's not good enough. yes by all means launch him to run about wildly and cause chaos
We were poor but still completely dominated the game. Honestly, United probably only had one decent chance in the whole game and we had lots but squandered them all. I'm annoyed we drew, that was an absolute waste of two points. And I'm not saying United are the weakest team we've played this year because obviously they're not. But they were the least threatening team I've seen us play against this season... Or indeed for a long time.
