I've had a look through this absolute bonkers thread, and one thing sticks out, a wanting of "success", what is "success" in this rancid modern age of state owned football clubs selling their souls? Competing in the Championship at a high level knowing that promotion to the PL will already have you down as a bookies favourite to get relegated? Humping all eggs in one basket to get promotion because Ipswich better go up because they'll be in trouble if they don't? Risking a clubs further on putting it all on red? Or.... sustainability at a club whereby it funds itself? Because to me, success in football in 2023 is having a well ran club, that knows its place at this particular moment in time but may have plans going forward. Beale may not be everyone's first choice but of all the names mentioned, I've heard about him, know he was a wanted coach by 2 clubs while at QPR within 5 months. Yes people say about loyalty.... there isn't any in football. I'll say his name, look at moyes at West Ham, European trophy winner currently 8th in the rancid gathering that is the premier league.... and the fans want him out. Mowbray, only manager that had a full spread in the match day program wishing him all the best. I said at the time that that smacked of a mutual parting of the ways. I've waffled enough. Other than a petition to parliament, there's nothing we can do about it. I'm indifferent to Beale coming in, because law of averages predict he won't be here in 18 month and it'll be onto the next one. Goes without saying , all of the above is of course in my humble opinion. PS, we get a result on the 6th of January, suddenly it'll be Mr Beale.
We'll probably never have the success we'd like, fact. People who work/live with Mags will be much angrier than those who don't, fact. Competitive football is f*cked, fact.
The word 'experience' is starting to really annoy me. It means absolutely nothing. Ipswichs team is full of players who have been kicking around league 1 and their coach is someone who took charge of ZERO first team games before he took over. I hope we go younger and younger just to annoy people at this point.
I give less and less of a **** about football the older I get. I've just realised that Liverpool Man U ended 0-0 at half 10 tonight there, a game 10-15 years ago I'd have looked forward to all week. Its just..... ****e these days, it really is.
I left home in Fife and stayed away for the WBA and Leeds games, met up with some great lads, loved the football and came home with a sore throat. I love it all but I'm content to watch us play good football with local lads and young kids I'd never heard of. I'd rather do that than batter my way to the PL playing like Sheff Utd or Luton. The finances are of zero interest.
Been on the decline for a few years mate. The takeover up the road for me bought the rivalry, it's at the point where I'm surprised if they don't win. The football crack between respective sets of fans has seemingly died of death where I work.
There's no better example of football losing its soul than what's going on at Newcastle. Doesn't get any worse.
I went to Newcastle supporting family at Chopwell and Rowlands Gill on our usual pre-Christmas tour. Football wasn't mentioned once whereas it would usually be a big part of the crack. Sad, a hundred year rivalry thrown away and can never return.
Seen a few comments regarding people being well thought of etc and my thoughts on it are that TM was well thought of because he’s a nice bloke. He’s that old gadgee you could have a pint with, puts an arm around the younger players, mr nice etc. I could not give a flying f*ck if my manager is a nice person. I want Sunderland to win. I don’t want teams to like us because we’re a good bunch and i think we lack that competitive edge. When we lost I didn’t really see a manager that I thought would be ruthless and make changes to fix the problem I knew that next game it would be the same Xl and same game plan. Beale is clearly well thought of by other professionals who’ve worked with him and his coaching record speaks for itself. People need to chill out judging a book by its cover. If people are going to use the likes of Brighton and Brentford as examples then do it properly don’t just use them because they’re in the PL now after trying to do it sustainably. Thomas Frank had done nout worth talking about before taking over at Brentford, managed a decent Danish team in Brondby for 3-4 years and won nothing. They sold their best players and reinvested the money - if we were to do so then fans would fall off their chair because their favourite player (who they think is world class and just isn’t) has left the club. Brighton had Chris Hughton in the championship for about 5 seasons and were loaning loads of players every season. If we were to do that people would whinge that we weren’t developing our own players. The hierarchy deserve a break and a bit of trust from the fans they can’t make everyone happy and the decisions they’ve made so far have us in a pretty good position.
Yeah it's a shame it's come to this. It's good in a way because I barely give a crap if they win or lose these days but I'd still rather their old club and our rivalry still existed.
my sentiments in my above post, both sets of fans don't seem bothered anymore. The "When Saturday Comes" supporters will say they feel the same, and if they do that's good for them, but it's a minority imo. So let's see what Beale brings to the high table, mite surprise a few
Not so sure mate, I had a message from a lad at teatime saying ' brace yersel'. He's the one who told me KLD was definite before it was announced. 'Brace yersel' was included in that message as well tbf
I have a feeling So, you saying its Le Brace making his 5th comeback at Sunlun? I'll let everyone know.....
